Winter coats
Right, good people. I need some fashion advice. Grandparents want to buy Rupert a coat for Christmas and I'm unsure what to get. Any recommendations with links would be appreciated. I would like something that will keep him warm and protect the underbelly in case it snows.
I was thinking of something in red tartan, but people already think he is a Scottie and I don't want to encourage them. Budget of up to about £50.
I quite like this http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product_grou ... pg_id=1424" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . Anyone got one?
Or this one. http://www.theonlinepetstore.co.uk/prod ... -Coats-522" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Thanks in advance.

I offer my advice freely, but I am not an expert, breeder, groomer or behaviourist. It is simply my experience of raising pups in a way that seems to make sense.

Re: Winter coats
This was Obi's first coat, was a real shame he grew to big. It kept him really warm but was a bit of a pain to dry if it got wet with it being waxed.

Re: Winter coats
I like the red Hurtta one. It would look very smart against Ruperts shiny black colouring

Re: Winter coats
The Hurtta one looks brilliant and would be easy to put on.
I couldn't see an explanation of the sizing. Normally it's just the measurement from the back of the neck to the start of the tail.

Re: Winter coats
Just to add I'd probably go for the hurtta, looks much more practical!
Also, if you're wanting a something like the wax jacket, have a look at the barbour website.

Re: Winter coats
Flint has this one..... Just got a 16" for him, as the 14" wasn't very big with the fleece inner inside. It's water proof & available in red.....
It helps if I put the link in......

Re: Winter coats
I've just ordered Annie the red Hurtta jacket. I'll post a piccie when it arrives. I normally buy my Hurtta gear from Finland because they have a better selection [Hurtta being Finnish] but http://www.muddypaws.co.uk/?vlsrc=gaw&g ... 4QodsBXAog" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; sells their whole range now and if they don't have something they'll order it.

Re: Winter coats
Forgot to say that the Hurtta jackets are really high quality, hence the price. I have a Hurtta jacket myself that's made out of the same fabric as the dog coats and it's completely waterproof and you can wipe it clean [you can also machine wash the coats no problem]
One big plus for me in the dog coats are the leg straps. It's almost always windy where we walk and they stop the coat flicking back.

Re: Winter coats
I think I also came to the conclusion that the Hurtta winter jacket is what we wanted, although I decided to go for the blue one in the end. Rupert has so much red and its getting a bit much now. Black dog always wearing red. When it arrives, I'll get him to model it. http://www.k9active.co.uk/Pro-Winter-Ja ... 000pwj.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I decided to get the 40cm one. Rather a little too big than too small. Will get it from muddy paws though as they are cheaper.

Re: Winter coats
We've just bought Flynn the raincoat version on the same k9 website in green 42cm (it's a teeny bit big) reduced to £39. It's very easy to get on and off and great quality. Rupert will look very smart in his winter style!

Re: Winter coats
my friend had the red hurrta coat but in black for her cocker who had a really thin coat and it kept her lovely and warm

Re: Winter coats
Flynn, how much is teeny bit big. The 40cm may be too small for him if you got the 42. Rupert is a big boy.

Re: Winter coats
Oh Obi looks so cute, we got Wookie an ANCOL ALL WEATHER coat from http://www.nutsaboutmutts.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; we got a medium which although its a bit long it fits pretty well round, I started a post back in september "Waterproof dog coat ready for a wet winter" back in sept & put all the info on there if its any use, but now I've seen the Hurrta coat I think I'd like to get her one of those aswell.
This is Wookie in a Medium (bit long but covers more)

The photo of her on the sofa is a small but not quite long enough, but at least you can see how well it covers underneath
