Re: Trainers suggestions regarding Jasper's biting

I am with Mike on this. This is not going to work and particularly not with a schnauzer, you will make him very scared and aggression will get worse not better. The trainer seems very hung up about a submissive stance. You want a confident, alert, happy stance from your schnauzer which generally mea...

Re: Bringing home our first standard pup!!! Need your feedback!

Daniel, what a lovely pup and it sounds like you are in for a fun and challenging time. Clip or Strip? 1st MS I clipped the 2nd is stripped and so glad that I made that decision Do you groom your dog yourself, or take him/her to a groomer? Me, great for bonding and less stressful for dog What specif...

Re: Size

Rachel she sounds on track to be a nice size. Otto put on 1kg each month and has ended up at 8.5kg. When a pup is growing you will find that one minute they look small and plump, then they look leggy and tall then they look in proportion again. It is a pity you didn't see the parents as that would h...

Re: New Member: Our Puppy Arrives In 3 Weeks

Emma, what a wonderful start. Just to put your mind at rest, Otto had hiccups at least once a day, nothing to worry about there.

Re: Dominance

Hi, sounds like quite a lot is going on with Jasper. You ask "Part of me wonders if this is too strict?".... your dog has bitten an 8 year old child. :( If that was a stranger's child then there could have been some very serious consequences for Jasper. He is going to have to go through a transition...

Re: Unusual sleeping positions

I wonder if I should get a 2nd schnauzer to fill the vacant space on the other side... I do love symmetry. :D

Re: New Member: Our Puppy Arrives In 3 Weeks

Hi Emma and welcome to Monty. He is adorable. I would wash his paws with a mild puppy shampoo, massage gently in between the toes and leave on for 5 mins and rinse well. Hopefully that gives some improvement but if it doesn't it probably rules out mites etc. on the paws and then hopefully the planne...

Re: No reason..

Fabulous photo Mike, they do look smart. One observation, I am very impressed with the OCD like tidiness of your schnauzers, demonstrated by the neatly lined up chews/antlers in the background. Well trained Mike. :D

Re: Running away from harness

Brilliant. =)) Goodness, they are funny little things aren't they. I am going to stop saying it's time for a walk I think and shove the harness up my jumper where he can't see it and just walk up to him so that before he knows it he is half harnessed. ;) Interestingly Mike, I don't have a problem wi...

Re: Running away from harness

I thought I would resurrect this thread. Otto now wears a harness for walks. He used to wear it just when going in the car, he loves the car so much he used to welcome the harness because he knew what that meant. Now he wears it all the time we have to go through the motions of him hiding under the ...
