Re: Happy Birthday Oscar

Happy third birthday Oscar. You're looking good.

Looking forwards to seeing what Dad bought you for your birthday :) And for today only, you don't need to share it with Sasha!

Good to see Harley crossing the Pennines into his new forever home.

Re: Night time wee

I took both of mine for a walk down the street every evening at 10pm no matter what the weather. They soon caught on that it was better to get it done and over with so they could get back home :)

Re: Schnauzer newbie

Hi Marie, Welcome to you and Maya. She looks adorable :) My youngest girl is 19 weeks so is a similar age but we got her at 8 weeks and she is fairly bombproof. Generally a pup is open and receptive to new situations but as time goes on - usually around 14 to 16 weeks, they become more cautious to n...

Re: Random bursts of energy + poop eating = terrible combo

Hi Andrew, You can involve the crate in a training exercise. When you're rewarding her for sitting etc, open the crate door and throw a couple of treats in and close the door after her. Wait until she's had the treats and if she's quiet, open the door and let her out and reward her again. If she's n...

Re: Behavior differences between standard and giant schnauzers

There are two standard schnauzers that live in a house I pass by on one of my usual walks - both all black.

I just looked at the KC website for the breed standard and they recognise two colours: P&S and black.

This is a thread from 15 months ago though :)

Re: Random bursts of energy + poop eating = terrible combo

Hi Andrew, Welcome to you and Mokka. I have no experience of standards ( 3 mini's) but from reading other member's experiences on the forum they are the most challenging of the 3 sizes - and as you say, super smart! I can recommend a book that is very helpful and you will go back to it over and over...

Re: Barking

Following on from what Julie's post; I should have added that what I did (and continue to do with Rosie) is a plan that was the result of a consultation with an behaviourist who spent 6 hours with us in the house, out driving and out on walks. As I'm insured with Petplan, they picked up the cost of ...

Re: Barking

Hi Hazel, First up, schnauzers like to bark and they especially seem to like to bark at anything passing by and got help us if someone actually walks up the path to the front door :) You can train them to stop this but it is much easier when they are pups ( I see your girls are 3 and 4). That said t...

Re: Sulking?

Hi Mike, This is something I've been struggling with too as I've noticed a difference in Rosie. Edie is like Sasha, thick skinned whereas Rosie is more sensitive like Oscar. I've been wondering about taking one dog out for a walk while my wife takes the other out for a walk. Edie could do with some ...

Re: Cushing disease v diabetes v overweight

Hi Lesley, Firstly, no need to apologise. We come here to be supportive and pass on any knowledge or experience we have. It's good to hear that Stanley's responding well. I note that his dose has changed from 6 to 9.5 units each jab. When you first said that he was still running high and you'd been ...

Re: A thread for Rosie and Edie

Lovely pictures Sam :) Thanks Mike. I feel very lucky living in Guernsey. Now that we're in October, sunset's at 6:45 and yet I can leave work at 5:15, drive home and get changed, and take my besties out to the beach for a walk and to watch the sun go down. This is Vazon beach on the west coast of ...

Re: Toys....

Both of them are looking great, Mike. I think it's impossible for any schnauzer owner to hide the fact that they have a schnauzer if the dog's at home when the visitors come to the front door :) Rosie and Edie's toys are tidied away every night before bedtime and left in a basket for them to take ne...

Re: Schuey heart murmur collapsing and liver problem

A bit of a curate's egg today Vicky. At least the Vetmedin will take care of the leaky valve and hopefully the 24 test will come up negative.

Hopefully tomorrow's scan goes well for Schuey and show's nothing more for you to worry about.

Best wishes to both of you.
