Re: First mini Schnauzer. how do I keep it safe in the garden please?

i would say you would be wasting your money on that set up...no pup will be happy to be left in that small area...in fact I would not recommend leaving a pup, outside unattended at all. There are many things wrong with this set up..no cover from rain or sun.Too small.no supervision etc.. Tiny pups wi...

Re: Hi im coffee mini schanuzer pupies

Re food I give 140 grams dry a day, split into two servings.. For your pup I'd be giving at least three feeds a day.. Look at his body, check he has a waist, you should be able to feel his ribs covered by a thin layer of fat..50 gms a meal is ok for now ..three times a day..then reduce quantity a littl...

Re: Hi, i am new and currently Schnasuzerless

Hi Nu.. I would be flexible on colour choice but stay focused on health testing..go to breeders who show their dogs ,it says they are current with the kc standards and their dogs are typical for the breed. Most importantly, your pup should be cleared for hereditary cataract.and parents should be pra ...

Re: Hi, i am new and currently Schnasuzerless

Welcome aboard.. I've had many dogs ,but the mini is one of the best breeds I've had..so much character in a tiny package. I hope you find your pup soon and we definitely look forward to the pics. What colour are you researching? Do be sure the parents are health tested for pra ( eye tests) and the ...

Re: Fluid drain..

Hi ,...my dogs have slept on our bed from puppyhood.. :) I have smaller quilt like cover squares,on bed which I wash daily,on top of my " human "quilt etc..this makes for a quick wash / dry and keeps everyone happy. I don't think he will need to be relegated to a crate..I would use an elastic type b...

Re: Barking?

Forgot to say that , I read Giants need a lot of mental stimulation , my Bernese's were happy with puzzle toys, obedience, hide and seek in the garden , would a giant be happy with this? If not want ideas what I can do? As I'm not interested in working my dog or doing dogs sports. Hi Jane.. Welcome...

Re: Jess - Dark Belly, always looks dirty

She's very cute.. id say this is normal too... Have a look at her skin colour in another area...some " silver dogs" have black skin, others have pink skin...my silver poodle has a pink skin for example.. I have seen some darkening of the belly in summer, which I link to an increase in skin pigment..in...

Ooh another black beauty..my favorite color. since you mentioned his head ,if you are going to home groom I recommend you read the draxpark link especially for the head.. Are you stripping his coat or is he being clipped? Here's a great link, scroll down to head.. http://www.draxpark.cc/grooming.php ...

Re: Hi im coffee mini schanuzer pupies

Hi Arie, I've found this breed to be very food orientated,we joke that Robin would also eat her bowl if we left it down..seriously,if you give the recommended amounts of food you have to be firm and keep to the schedule or your dog will become a pest and beg for more.Too much food can cause health p...

Re: Puppy Peeing In Crate (Separation Anxiety)

This is a slow breed to mature..think three years..! Your life plan for the dog sounds wonderful after 18 months...you will be a wonderful home for an adult giant...your biggest issue is going to be getting through the first year...it will be expensive to pay for dog walker or puppy daycare, but for ...

Re: New here, first time Giant Schnauzer owner

Hi and welcome?. , A few ideas.. Ten months is the perfect age to start her on a basic obedience course....this will tire her active mind for better than a long run..my rottie and mastiff used to be exhausted after even basic obedience session as pups..also you will bond with pup,and rules will be s...

Re: Chasing / Barking at Football / Basketballs

At six months he still has a lot of growing up to do....he obviously loves his chase game with the toy so I'd work with that...long line him on a harness in the park, take a squeaky toy ,ball etc....then work him on throw ,recall/ retrieve with this toy...only use the toy in this place...it should be...

Re: Hi im coffee mini schanuzer pupies

Hi coffe. Do you have a name I can use? If your pup has a lot of matting on the legs..I would do the following.. Take some conditioner for dry hair and rub into the dry legs on the dog...gently use a slicker brush on the matted areas.. Wait ten minutes..then bath the dog..shampoo and again put more ...

Re: bag / rucksack recommendations

Thanks..i love it here,I have been here for nearly thirty years now..this is my third st poodle, all home groomed.
The schnauzer is definitely better suited to the lifestyle here,so easy to keep in stripped coat and seems to shrug off the ticks etc..the poodle however is a tick and seed magnet.

Re: Puppy Peeing In Crate (Separation Anxiety)

Sam and Oscar..couldn't agree more... for me ,I am at total peace when I have my dogs with me.When we are apart ,I feel there is a piece missing..if I'm driving and can't see a dogs face in my rear mirror, there is definitely something missing. I know people have to work, but if you bring a dog into t...
