Re: Hello from the Isle Of Wight

Welcome on board... What a pity you are not in Italy,we have some excellent black breeders of "schnauzer media "here...still unspoiled and very true to traditional breeding. This is a breed that likes to be occupied...a solid training programme and then a good outlet for their energy levels..eg trac...

Re: Edie's grooming journey begins

What a lovely gift..I honestly could not do without my table,it really makes life so much easier. Once on the table the dog knows it's there to be brushed,or examined etc..it also will set your dog up for future vet visits where they know it's time to stand still and nothing bad happens... Will you ...

Re: Puppy is aggressive biting

Hi Sam..you've only had the pup for such a short time I think you need to get to know each other and understand why she's growling / biting.. From what you've said she's a typical feisty little pup, very different to your gentler character,Rosie.. I would never tap her face or use a stone filled jar ...

Re: One of the K9 baby teeth is not coming out

Hi David..I have seen this retained canine in my poodle pups up to seven months...after this, the canine usually loosens and is pushed out by the new adult tooth...if it's wobbly,a chew toy, gentle tug games etc would help the deciduous tooth to come out. in your dog's case you say both teeth seem imm...

My ST poodle girl had IBD all her life, with recurrent diarrhea and bloody stools..we kept a diary to pin point her flares with any dietary triggers..we had a biopsy done ( when she was spayed) which did reveal ,in her case ,certain bacteria were problematic..helicobacter and proteus..the former livi...

Re: Edie's grooming journey begins

Hi Jo, I didn't take your posting as terse in any way at all and I like to hear from people who are much more experienced and knowledgeable than me about stripping a schnauzer. I have all of 6 months experience !! Edie will be my first "blank canvas" as I took the quick fix with Rosie at first but ...

Re: Otto's beard

Julie...,don't stop tipping the ends of the beard...the hair wil die and stop growing..tipping the hair ends will keep the hair growing up to a point. I would trim that back curve off the beard( in profile of the pic you've posted..) then, keep tipping the points..you can decide on the length you pr...

Re: Edie's grooming journey begins

Hi Sam..sorry if I sound terse..I try to get things down as as clear as possible, not a criticism...in fact I was hoping to get Rosie's coat a step further in your stripping journey.. .......I've been seeing a lot of the new pups on board whose first time owners are opting straight for the clip..the ...

I did the same as Mike,I've never left the pup at home...when they get too big for the bag,the pup got a coat and walked In the rain too..my dogs love their walks,we go in rain, snow, all weathers and never miss a walk..when we get home they get blow dried and relax ,in winter,in front of a log stove....

Re: Fake news and fear-mongering

I recall the health issues reported in the eighties for greyhounds being raw fed...I believe the problem is reporting lines get blurred..as I remember the issue was not the raw feeding per se, but the fact the raw meat was left outdoors in the dogs cages for too long and the resultant diseases were ...

Re: Edie's grooming journey begins

Hi Sam. A soft bristle brush will only glide over the top coat..id start using a soft slicker brush..often called a cocker slicker.. You should not be getting any discomfort reaction when carding..be sure to pull the skin forward and card horizontally, towards the tail,so the undercoat comes away..it...

Re: Determined little girl

Thanks Jo, we just really want to get it right with her. She's a character which we love but we also want to be sure she's a lovely dog to be with & one we can take out & about with us. We've had two really positive meetings with other dogs out on walks now, whereas before she'd bark her head off t...

Re: Puppy feed for Miniature

Julie..the ancestral grain food I feed also contains chicken,i don't support any dog on a completely vegetarian diet either....my point was suggesting that ancestral grains were healthy for the dog,(unlike grain s such as maize etc)..so it's another option rather than going onto grain free per se......
