Great to be here, but on a sad occasion. My beloved mini schnauzer Cilla passed away on Thursday. Totally heartbroken as she was my best friend, angel and therapy girl. She was 12. We had been thinking of getting her a little sister a while before covid hit, as we thought she could share her beloved ways and characteristics with her new puppy friend. We will only purchase from reputable breeder, and understand the issues re covid, but hopefully now we are coming out the other side, maybe we could join a waiting list for another wee black mini....fingers crossed xx

Welcome to the forum Jules, sorry its on a sad occasion, I can share your sadness as know how you will be feeling losing your beloved Cilla, I lost my first Schnauzer a girl on 13th April 2017, I was totally devastated. I ended up getting another a few weeks later as her groomer knew of a litter & recommended me to the breeder. It was the best thing I did to be honest my boy who is now 4yrs old will never replace her but he sure has helped to ease the pain. I know its not everyone that can get another so soon but it certainly worked for me, don't get me wrong I still miss my girl as she will always be special but I have a super wee boy who is now my Shadow & makes us laugh again. Please consider having another as it does help. Loved your attached photo.

Welcome Jules, I'm sorry to hear of your loss, but glad to have you here nonetheless and your girl Cilla is a beautiful precious soul. I can see her sweetness in her eyes. I too can share your feelings of grief as we lost our beloved girl in March 2020. I shut down completely for a few weeks, it's the unfortunate price we pay to enjoy their sweet antics and have them in our lives, but the good times make it all worth it. Let yourself grieve and heal at your pace, there's no right out wrong way to feel with these things, but whatever way you do, with time, you will remember those good times, those silly things she did that keeps you laughing everyday and the pain will subside.
We waited on a few lists and finally got our boy Ozzy in Sept 2020. He has been my saving grace, but also we have had time to greive and deal with our loss. I know when the right time comes, you will find what you are looking for. Sorry I cannot help you find a pup, I'm on the other side of the globe, but it will work for you.
Please keep in mind though every schnauzer is different with their own antics and quirks. New pup will not be the same as Cilla but you will get to meet your new pup's personality and watch him/her grow up and learn the world. Good luck to you and please feel free to talk about Cilla here and post pics if you wish and it helps, I love to read about other schnauzers!

Welcome to the Forum Jules
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Cilla and have been through the emotional devastation when a loved dog passes. If Cilla’s breeder is no longer breeding, could s/he maybe recommend another reputable breeder of black minis. There are far fewer black miniature schnauzers bred than pepper and salt and it may be worth considering trying to get on a waiting list for a quality breeder even if they are not breeding blacks.
A starting point would be the Assured Breeder lists and also the breed club lists. There will be excellent breeders on both but you will need to research and question any breeder you contact to ensure you are happy and confident with their breeding and knowledge of the breed /welfare considerations and health screening. Do not take any recommendations or the fact that someone is on a list as a 100% guarantee they are responsible and caring in their breeding protocol. Although you may know already the health tests to ask about and other relevant questions, there are several topics in the Breeding and Puppy Care sections of this Forum which have advice on finding a good breeder.

Dear Jules
I too lost my darling schnauzer in 2019 and it took me 10 months to get another schnauzer. She will never replace my darling Beany but Tilly who is now 9.5 months has helped me move on and I love her so. Only you can decide when you’re ready. Cilla is very beautiful. I feel your pain. Time is your friend.
