Standard Schnauzer puppy

Post by Jim Evans »

Hi
My name is Jim Evans and I live in Wiltshire, U.K. I have just joined the Forum,
I am looking for a Standard Schnauzer puppy, I would prefer a dog rather than a bitch, I have no idea where I can find one from and I'd appreciate it if someone could steer me in the right direction to breeder with a good reputation
Cheers
Jim

Hello Jim and welcome to the Forum :)

Standard schnauzers are relatively rare in the U.K. compared to miniature schnauzers and the number of puppies born each year are not high. To date less than 100 puppies are recorded as registered in the whole of the U.K. during 2020. The numbers of puppies of all breeds from reputable breeders has been low in any event for the past nine months or so as the restrictions imposed due to the pandemic has meant many of the best breeders have delayed having litters when they are aware they cannot fully vet new puppy seekers; visiting the breeder’s home is impossible for prospective puppy families and socialisation of pups is also much more difficult. Currently things are not yet back to any kind of normality where these are concerned so do be prepared to wait longer or travel further for a well bred puppy.

Any specific recommendations of breeders will have to be by private message or email only but you could start your search by checking those listed on the Kennel Club Assured Breeder lists. Although this is not 100% guarantee of the best, those listed will have committed to the highest welfare standards, raising pups well and will have been subject to inspection by an experienced KC assessor.

If you click on the name of each breeder it will take you through to more details about them.

Do have a look through the topics in the Puppy Care and Breeding sections on the Front Page Board Index for more detailed advice on what to look for in a breeder and check out any recommendations thoroughly as with the ABS breeders. Don’t be tempted to purchase from online selling sites or commercial kennels selling large numbers of dogs and / or different breeds just to get a puppy quickly. You do need to find a breeder you can trust before committing to purchasing a puppy and it is definitely worth getting on a waiting list for a future puppy than risking financial loss, heartache or a troubled and challenging experience with a puppy farmed or poorly bred pup.

Good luck in your search :)
