Hi everyone!

Post by Thilosmum »

Hi all,

I’m new to the forum and wanted to say hello!

I am a dog obsessive from Belfast and figured I’m in the right place! My boy Thilo sadly passed away last Easter, he was just shy of 14 years old (missed his birthday by 1 month) and he was my pride and joy.
Our house just isn’t the same without him and we do hope to one day welcome another mini into our lives but I’m just not sure when that will be. I hate not having a dog in my life but I also know we’re not ready to love another just yet (although trying to explain that to the children who constantly ask for a dog is proving quite difficult!)
Anyway, it’s maybe unusual to join a schnauzer community when you don’t have one anymore but I enjoy seeing everyone else’s beautiful pups!

Welcome to the Forum, Aislinn :)

So sorry to hear of Thilo’s passing. It certainly is a heart-wrenching loss when a loved dog passes. He looks a sweet boy in your photo.

Although you are not looking for another mini schnauzer just now - or even another breed of dog - it could be worthwhile researching to find a good breeder for the future. Good breeders do have waiting lists for puppies for when they do breed and it can be useful if you have already made contact with someone and are confident in their love and care for the breed and their own dogs and pups.

Hope you enjoy browsing the Forum in any event and seeing photos of members’ schnauzers too :)

That’s great advice, I will definitely start doing my research into NI breeders - I’m fairly confident we will chose another schnauzer in the future although my 5 year old has a list of breeds as long as her arm that she would like! 🤣

Sorry for your loss, Thilo looks like such a sweetheart. We certainly understand the pain with losing our best friends, it is devastating at first, but gets a little better as time passes and you can remember and cherish his good times with you.

No it's not unusual to join a forum such as this even when you don't have one anymore. At least I know I did. My avatar is my heart girl Chelsea. I didn't have her anymore when I joined. I also rabbit holed YouTube, all the schnauzer vids I could find. I found it helped ease the heartaache before we got Ozzy pup.

Searching out breeders is great advice! Mostly there are waiting lists, so even if you are not quite ready, there's no commitment and it doesn't hurt to see what's out there.
Good luck, I hope you find a good reputable breeder and welcome your little pup soon!

Sorry for your loss, they really leave a big hole. I'd already been looking at breeders with the intention of getting a 2nd dog before we lost Barney and had narrowed it down. It was a matter of when the next litter was after that. We didnt wait long partly because Jasper shares many relations in his pedigree with Barney so it felt a bit like he was family already.

Dont hesitate to join in with any discussions, its all schnauzer related :D

Hi Welcome to the forum, so sorry for your loss they do leave a huge gap in your life, I was devastated when I lost my girl, in a way I was lucky as her groomer told me about a litter so we ended up having a boy quite soon he certainly eased the pain & helped me, admit I did feel guilty but I wouldnt of made it without him as I have a super wee boy could not have got any better (sorry to brag). Do hope you will have another soon it does help, enjoy the forum.
