Memorial stone

Post by Dawnspell »

I got the idea from Leigh with the stones they'd had engraved for lost pets. I thought I'd do my own. Guernsey is a big granite rock so lots to choose from =))

It took a while to work up to doing it but it now has more meaning with me doing it myself. I have to find something to seal it with now so it will last outside. Anybody know about sealing stone?

That is so lovely... did you draw that yourself? Heaven knows what a schnauzer drawn by me would look like, probably like I had buried a hairy ferret or something resembling a hairy ferret.

That is really lovely. A unique memorial and very good image - even more special as you say having created it yourself xx

Yes I did. It's painted using acrylic paint.

Alison,

That's a very touching tribute to Barney. You can seal stone using Lithofin (get it from Capelles Tiling centre). If you take the stone with you they may even decant a small amount so you don't have to buy it. My only concern is whether the acrylic paint would be affected - you'd need a test piece first.

Thanks Sam. I had wondered about the effects of anything spirit based with the paint. Acrylics are pretty tough to remove off anything you accidentally get it on.

Hi Alison

I think your memorial stone is beautiful.

I have used a Plastikote matt fixative to protect acrylic painted on wood that was to go outside. It has survived torrential downpours without running and blazing sunshine without fading. Looks to work on stone too, but maybe try a tester first before putting on your precious handmade creation. Here's the link:

You can pick it up in Hobbycraft too.

Hi Alison, what a lovely tribute to your lovely boy, maybe you ought to go into business doing these, I am sure you would sell an awful lot. I am not at all arty, so on the 1st anniversary of each of our previous dogs passing I bought a lovely tree, so now I have a lovely collection in my garden, I also bought one when my husband past, so he is with our boys as well. Incidently, I went to see a medium after my husband past away and she said that a robin would come to visit me, I have waited almost 3 years for one to come to my garden although a robin comes to our work place(we have a family business) and has done right from the very start, even coming into my office one the day it would have been his birthday, but on the 20th April, just gone, which would have been our 45th wedding anniversary, a robin came into my garden for the 1st time, and a white feather was on my door step. The robin is now in my garden most days, I know some people think things like that are a load of rubbish but it gives me some comfort.

Sue you've just reminded me of something, Check this out https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/slredirect/ ... ame=sp_atf

I'm not at all that way inclined but its strange you should mention that. This past month or so I've been re-puppy proofing the doggy fenced off part of the garden ready for Little no name coming. Every time I'm in the garden a Robin comes. He now comes within 3 feet of me looking for freebee feed outs showing trust like Barney did. That's set me off in tears now :(( :)) . These dogs what do they do to us !!!
