Re: Kennel names
Common in US for new owners to decide on names. Over here breeders normally have their registered prefix and some allow owners to choose the last bit.Grice wrote:I don't have one yet, but loved reading the variety of names!

If you are getting a Kennel Club registered puppy you will usually find that many breeders have an affix ( or "breeder's signature) which they pay for each year and which is a way of identifying all the dogs that come from their breeding. If the kennel name or affix is one beginning "Ken...." this is an affix that has been assigned by the Kennel Club on the request of the breeder of the puppies and this will not be unique to that breeder but will be a generic affix for that year which any breeder will get if they ask the KC to provide an affix for their litter.
However, as said above, the rest of the registered name may not always be decided before a puppy is chosen and the new family may have the opportunity to choose which of the registered names they would like for their pup. However breeders will usually register their litter at the Kennel Club when the puppies are three weeks old in order to ensure they have the registration papers for the new owners in good time. Names are not registered by the Kennel Club to individual puppies but are registered to either the male or female puppies ( along with individual registration numbers) and the breeder then decides which name to give to which of the pups. If the new owners know from the earliest days they are having a puppy from this breeder they may have the opportunity to influence names
