Otto - Progress with stripping

Grooming is an important part of looking after your Schnauzer. Regular grooming will help keep your Schnauzer healthy and comfortable and you will spot potential problems early. Whether you decide to clip or strip your Schnauzer, help is on hand. Schnauzers are generally a non-shedding breed and will require a fair amount of grooming to get rid of dead hair.

Jo, not as short as you have Robin's which is so beautiful and definitely show standard but we are getting there.

I can see real improvement in his coat ,Julie..just the shoulders need a bit more coarse knife work to get the long coat there and then keep on working throughoutwith the fine knife...I swap between my dk knives and the Mars depending where I'm working on the dog.I still like my Mars fine for the neck area..I like your dog,s stripped head,I shave robins as the hair there is still fine on her head,so I shave short.

Thanks Jo. I use the undercoat rake on the top of Otto's head to occiput to remove what I can and then I clip on a 7 blade in Summer and 5 blade in Winter with ears clipped with 10 in Summer and 7 in Winter. I find leaving the head slightly longer blends better with his coat and makes it look stripped but it isn't, it is very soft hair. I just hope that it keeps black like his ears will. You are right I need to spend some time on his shoulders.
