Otto's beard

Grooming is an important part of looking after your Schnauzer. Regular grooming will help keep your Schnauzer healthy and comfortable and you will spot potential problems early. Whether you decide to clip or strip your Schnauzer, help is on hand. Schnauzers are generally a non-shedding breed and will require a fair amount of grooming to get rid of dead hair.

Otto's beard

Post by Oscar 12345 »

Made an interesting discovery with Otto's beard, I have never trimmed it and it doesn't grow beyond where it is now. Oscar's beard grew so long and I had to trim it regularly. One less job in the grooming process for me :)

What a beautiful boy Otto is and a lovely picture too.

I may be in the same boat with my Oscar. I ensure the groomers never trim it but it doesn't seem to get any longer :-s

Julie...,don't stop tipping the ends of the beard...the hair wil die and stop growing..tipping the hair ends will keep the hair growing up to a point. I would trim that back curve off the beard( in profile of the pic you've posted..) then, keep tipping the points..you can decide on the length you prefer, but the balance will be better in profile.
Plus ,your dog has wonderful leg furnishings, but I'd also take a straight scissor up the outside of the leg profile..l do this weekly with my ST poodle who has the thickest coat of all three poodles I've had...and it grows back within two weeks, but so fresh and strong,it's a wonderful treat for the coat.

Some dogs male or female have long beards, some have short.

It should never become a problem.

It is definitely not a health problem.

Gino's breeder told us Schnauzer’s beards should never be trimmed but Gino’s was growing so fast & it was getting so long I was thinking at this rate it will be touching the ground soon so when he was groomed 2weeks ago I had it trimmed. He’s 15 months now & that was its first trim but it will be a while until it’s done again.

Thanks all, yes quite happy with this little bug catcher's beard. My Oscar's was like Gino's, it would have just kept growing.
