Re: Grooming the face
Hi Kelly, welcome to the forum. Some schnauzers, probably most initially are scared by the sight of scissors close to the face and especially near the eyes. Is it scissoring or clipping or both? For scissoring the eyebrows for example, try coming from the back of his head. Hold chin in palm and gently hold beard so that you don't get sudden movement and trim from behind, his head shouldn't move around that way because he can't see the scissors. With the hair between the eyes when a pup I gently but firmly hold the muzzle with the head looking down so he can't see the scissors and do a bit at a time. Try just holding the muzzle at first and then releasing and treating so no scissors until you can hold the muzzle without any struggle. It just takes time and lots of patience until he realises that nothing bad is going to come. A few months on and he will be sitting still for you.
