Re Stripping

Grooming is an important part of looking after your Schnauzer. Regular grooming will help keep your Schnauzer healthy and comfortable and you will spot potential problems early. Whether you decide to clip or strip your Schnauzer, help is on hand. Schnauzers are generally a non-shedding breed and will require a fair amount of grooming to get rid of dead hair.

Re Stripping

Post by dezza »

Hello,
Please I would appreciate advice.
We thought that our beloved pet was being hand stripped only to be informed by another groomer that she has been clipped rather than stripped.
The 'another groomer' also stated that it would now not be possible to have her stripped as she has been cut.
Please are there any views on this and also which is preferable stripping or cutting and is there a way of telling the difference?
We have been paying quite a lot over a few years on the understanding that she has been stripped and have now been quoted half the price for a cut.
Any advice please will be most welcome.
Kind Regards,
Jim.

Hi Stephen, how old is she, how many times has she been clipped. If it was only the once and she is still a pup then if the coat is good and suitable for stripping then it might be possible to get it back to be strippable. First step would be to let it grow and blow and to keep carding the coat to see whether any harsher hair starts to come through. I would do this myself rather than rely on a groomer because it needs to be done every few days once the coat gets to a better length. If it has been clipped several times then it might not be possible. It does all depend on the type of coat that she has. There was an area on Otto that I had difficulty stripping and so used to blend with scissors. As I got better at doing it I was able to card/strip the area so it is possible. Happy to help further.

A clipped jacket will feel soft to the touch as its just the undercoat. A stripped coat will feel wiry, a lot stiffer. If she is pepper and salt the hairs will be banded with colour if she is stripped. If clipped it will be one colour and with the darker colours the coat will possibly have got lighter if shes an older dog.

Ooops I misread your post, this has been going on for a while/years. Have you got any photos of the coat that you thought was stripped?

Thank you for getting back.
I don't have new pictures at the moment as my camera is down.
Your advice is helpful.
