Left handed carding

Grooming is an important part of looking after your Schnauzer. Regular grooming will help keep your Schnauzer healthy and comfortable and you will spot potential problems early. Whether you decide to clip or strip your Schnauzer, help is on hand. Schnauzers are generally a non-shedding breed and will require a fair amount of grooming to get rid of dead hair.

Left handed carding

Post by DaisyDoo »

Hi all
I have started carding and hand stripping Daisy..She is currently 14 weeks and it’s a steep learning curve for both of us.
I was looking for recommendations for a left handed knife for carding. I have started with a blue Mikki but am struggling..
I have found the mars knives on amazon. They come in right and left handed options. Any reviews/thoughts on these?
Also do i need 328 (medium) or 326 ?

Thanks in advance

I can't help with the left handed part but my first stripping knife was a mars 330. It came quite sharp so it needed bouncing before using so it didn't cut hair. You can do this by running it through sand or quicker method is running sandpaper between the teeth.

I can recommend this range which you can get left handed. I have a Mars knife which sits in my grooming box, never got on with it tbh. It's a matter of choice and I suspect the type of hair, I have the DK Rainbow knives which are fab but you can't get left handed. The DK classic range does have a left hand version. https://www.groomer.dk

Thanks both.
The DK ones look good but are out of my price range.
I might try the mars m326 as a few websites say it is recommended for schnauzers.

Hi Julie (Oscar 12345).
I am looking at the groomer dk knifes after all.
I am pleased to see they offer the full range (fine, medium, coarse) of left handed options rather than just a token one.
Which 1 one 2 would you recommend?

Jen, I have the coarse and fine and tbh I use the coarse all the time, don't really use the fine one. They are lovely and will last a lifetime I think.

Thanks for your advice Julie. It’s very much appreciated.
I think I might treat myself to a late Christmas present.
Happy Christmas to all.
