Sweet dreams, Molly.

Saying goodbye to our Schnauzers is the hardest part. Share your memories here as we bid farewell to our beloved friends. They've crossed the bridge and returned to the meadow in full health and free of injuries. Running free. We won't forget.

Sweet dreams, Molly.

Post by Schnauzer Sam » 22 Dec 2018, 13:34

In 2003, my wife and two daughters conspired behind my back to buy a miniature schnauzer who was named Molly. Her registered name is Country Girl at Heart. She was born on April 8, 2003.

I had always had large dogs and wasn't certain about getting a small barky dog but, of course, when I held her, I was immediately in love with her and the breed. My wife and I divorced and it was thought best that Molly stayed with her family and although I continued to see her, my youngest daughter told me that Molly was upset for a few days afterwards and so I put her needs before mine and stopped seeing her. I last saw her in 2011 though continued to hear of her from my daughters.

I got a call from my youngest daughter today to say that Molly had deteriorated rapidly over the past few days and had been put to sleep 4 months short of her 16th birthday. She was with her family and went peacefully.

I am heartbroken but want to thank her for opening my heart up to the most gorgeous breed that I continue to love with Rosie and Edie.

Farewell Molly; you will always be in my thoughts

I'm so sorry to hear this Sam. It must have been heartbreaking to stop seeing Molly back in 2011 and now to hear she has gone must be doubly heartbreaking.

Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.

Sam, so sorry for this loss and what an incredible age she lived to. Wonderful photos of a very very happy dog. Heartbreaking for the family I am sure. The way they just muscle their way in and there they stay if not physically then in our hearts. Sounds like she didn't suffer, so upsetting though. :ymhug:

So sorry to hear about Molly. It mist have been so hard to leave that wee girl twice. She lived to a grand old age.

I have to ask where you got her from, she is the double of our Suzi both as a pup and adult.

She came from a breeder in Limavady, Northern Ireland. Her pedigree is below.

Hi Sam I am so sorry to hear about Molly so heartbreaking for you even though you hadn't seen her since 2011 so brave of you to give up seeing her certainly a double heartbreaker for you. She was a lovely girl & lived to a good age. I'm glad that she opened up your heart to the Schnauzer world to having Rosie & Edie to ease your pain they are a super breed who mean so much to us all on this forum.
I lost my precious girl in 2017 & I'm still hurting even though I have a special little boy who came to me to ease the pain as they leave an enormous gap in our life.
Know that you won't forget your Molly even though you now have Rosie & Edie in your life the first ones in our life mean so much.
Take care my thoughts are with you x

So sorry to hear of your loss. I came across this quote from Rudyard Kipling in a Hamish Macbeth book of all places

There is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day
But when we are certain of sorrow in store
Whys do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Its so true but everybody does all the time for all the joy they give us
