Dear Eddie

Saying goodbye to our Schnauzers is the hardest part. Share your memories here as we bid farewell to our beloved friends. They've crossed the bridge and returned to the meadow in full health and free of injuries. Running free. We won't forget.

RIP Eddie.......19 Mar 2007 ---25 Jul 2012

Eddie was put to sleep at 3.30 this afternoon. We held him in our arms and spoke to him till his heart stopped. We took Mouse as well and I think she understood.
They offered surgery but said if things were as they thought that they wouldn't wake him up and they couldn't offer any hope of a good outcome so we opted to let him go while we were there with him.
He had a massive tumour in his stomach, problems with his gall bladder and liver as well as peritonitis. They said that any one of these things would be serious but all together the outlook would be very grim. Last Thursday he was running and playing normally.
We are just numb. Judie can't stop crying, I have tears in my eyes and my stomach is all knotted up. Our pain is terrible. He was just over 5 so we didn't expect to face this for another 10 or so years. He was part of our family and now there is a hole that we will be unable to fill.
We are having him cremated and will keep his ashes with us.

Eddie my little man.....We have spent every day (and night) together for the last 5 years and I am so sad that we had to let you go. You were just so sick and looking back I think you realised that it was time this morning when all you wanted to do was hide yourself in an inaccessible corner of the garden. There is so much more I want to say to you but I can't write now. Just know that you were the best little dog anyone could hope for, so very loved and you will not be forgotten. No more pain. Sleep well my little friend. xxxxxxxx

I know everyone of us will shed tears for you all today. It never ceases to amaze me that even in our pain and grief we always seem to be able to do the right thing for our beautiful dogs, the only thing that matters is them and you made the right decision for Eddie. I hope you and Judie will be able to stay strong for Mouse and it was lovely that you took Mouse with you.

Run free beautiful Eddie.

I've never met Eddie but I felt I knew him from your posts. I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out for him now. 5 is far too young to go but at least you were able to put an end to his suffering.

Nothing I can say will make it better but try and remember the good times and put the last few days behind you.

Sending lots of Schnauzery love your way from Hastings.

I haven't looked at the forum for a bit and I didn't even know he was I'll til I saw on Facebook .. I have had a big cry for you, Jude and Mouse. I fell in love with Eddie at the Oxford walk. His unique face, beautiful eyes and such a chunky teddy bear, it's no wonder you did the PAT scheme with him. I'm in bits.
