Hi
We live in the Lichfield area and are interested in welcoming a miniature Schnauzer into our home. Can anyone suggest breeders who we could contact please? Thank you.

Re: Miniature Puppy wanted
Hi Andy and welcome to the Forum
Recommendations will have to be via private message but, in the meantime, do have a browse through the Puppy and Breeding sections of the Forum for advice and guidance on the kind of questions to ask and what to look for from a good breeder. Recommendations can be useful but do judge for yourself if those recommended meet the highest standards as not everyone has the same expectations of a breeder as regards welfare and raising puppies. Especially if you are new to the breed, you will want to be sure that the breeder is one who understands the importance of raising puppies in an enriched environment, who knows about breed characteristics, grooming, health issues etc. and will be there to support and advise you if needed throughout the lifetime of the dog as s/he grows up.
As regards health, do look for a breeder who has had the mother of the litter eye screened for hereditary eye conditions within the last 12 months, that the sire has been regularly tested (including in the previous twelve months) clear of hereditary eye conditions and that the litter will be eye screened for Congenital Hereditary Cataracts. It is also recommended that both parents have clear DNA tests for MAC.
I would also suggest that you join one or more of the schnauzer breed clubs as these can be a means of meeting breeders and owners and are a useful source of breed information. Also, with Crufts coming up in March, it could be worthwhile going to Discover Dogs there and having a chat with owners on the Miniature Schnauzer stand. The breed are being judged on Sunday 10th March as Utilty dogs and you will find more breeders and enthusiasts there on that day. If you are looking for the best breeders, do not limit yourself as regards location or time frame, better to travel and / or wait for a well raised puppy as it will make all the difference in the long run.
Good luck in your search
