Rehoming your dog

The Miniature Schnauzer is a smallest dog in the Schnauzer breed and originated in the mid-to-late 19th Century from Germany. The Miniature Schnauzer is a cross between the Standard Schnauzer and other smaller breeds such as the Poodle. A miniature Schnauzer is a spunky, but aloof dog who does things their own way. They tend to be good guard dogs without the tendency to bite.

Rehoming your dog

Post by Dinkum »

If you find yourself in the position through personal circumstance where you need to rehome your dog, we'd like to assist. Many people surrender their dog to various charitable organisations and think this is the best and responsible thing to do. This is not always the case. Miniature schnauzers may find a home quickly, but a giant schnauzer is a very large breed to rehome and it is not always possible through a charitable organisation.

In the first instance, the best place to start should you find yourself in this position, is with your dog's breeder. Although they may not be able to take the dog back themselves, they may have been contacted by someone looking for an older dog and can assist you in finding a new home.

If however you are unable to contact the breeder, or you don't know who it is, then another possibility is the breed club rehome and rescue co-ordinator. There is a waiting list of vetted people waiting to rehome Schnauzers of all sizes, ages and health. The various breed clubs are listed below. Please remember that the secretary is not always the rescue coordinator.

Please, if at all possible, don't advertise your schnauzer on sites such as Gumtree and Preloved.

If you are looking to rehome or rescue a Schnauzer, the links below for the breed clubs will help.
