Sometimes after a bit of play, it's lovely when the dogs wil calm down for just long enough to let you get a snap of them without pulling each others beards.

Loving all the pics..she's growing so fast already!
Once you get the pup into the walking you do ,it will all fall, into place..they walk, they are tired and relax ..there is always this in between period when the pup is still to small to keep up ,but it's a blip in the many years ahead..
Mine do morning and evening walks, and in between come on all our errands.in between they crash,. In front of the fan..it's still 28c here.l

Re: A thread for Rosie and Edie
I'm a very keen gardener but have accepted that having two bitches is incompatible with having an immaculate lawn. Firstly there's the urine burn on the grass and Edie has decided that when she grows up she's going to be a landscape gardener or a tunneller so I'm doing something I never thought I'd give any consideration to; I've ordered artificial grass after seeing Leigh's play area for her dogs on another thread. I went and had a look at some samples from a local supplier and was very impressed with the quality. I've ordered it direct from the UK though to save £500!
It'll be better for the dogs (no need to keep them off the lawn when I feed and weed) and better for me (no worries about burning the lawn when I clean the paths, no need to mow but best of all, no muddy feet to clean in the winter.

Re: A thread for Rosie and Edie
Snap! My lawn has some lovely little patches dotted around where the grass has been 'urine-burned' away
Just before we got Oscar and I secured the garden, I created a little area for him to do his business, all sectioned off and lined with tree bark, I thought it would be ideal for him. He however didn't feel it was ideal and used the lawn instead and to my surprise, almost from day one, he would squat when pee'ing rather than aiming against a plant - even now he squats At first I used to follow him around with a watering can to try and water the urine away but I soon tired of that.
Then I tried waiting for the grass to die off, before scraping it away, treating the ground and laying new grass seed but that felt like a losing battle too.
So now I don't bother. I love my garden dearly and the lawn too but I have accepted that when you have pooches you love, having bowling green grass isn't really in the equation too, so I just accept now that it has a "lived in" look. And now there are two Schnauzers, there is twice the number of 'crop circles'.
I love the idea of the artificial grass but it would be quite expensive I suspect for our garden

Having seen the size of your garden on youtube I think I'd put up with the piebald lawn. It may become fashionable some daymikegoodson1 wrote: ↑21 Aug 2018, 09:52 I love the idea of the artificial grass but it would be quite expensive I suspect for our garden
Incidentally, I did the watering can bit too but the problem was that no-one else did I also tried the dogrocks from Australia but they had no effect with Rosie's output so I gave up on them though I do know people who have had good results. Seemingly it's tied in to the quantity of protein eaten by the dog so dogs with high protein diets cause more damage to the grass. Usually bitches urine is worse, but only because it's dumped in one spot rather than sprayed in smaller quantities around the place. That Oscar is a squatter means that you have the same effect as my two.

Re: A thread for Rosie and Edie
Edie had her 2nd rounds of jabs yesterday and the vet advised me to give her another week at home though I could walk her on a beach below high tide mark but keep her away from any obvious deposits.
I got myself sorted out with a couple of crates, popped the girls in their crates and went to Havelet Bay which is the beach in St Peter Port overlooking Cornet Castle. Edie, despite loving her crate to sleep in at home decided that she would howl the whole way to the beach. Thankfully, it's only a 5 minute drive so it was easy enough to ignore.
As you can see, she loved the new experience and Rosie was happy to have some company to explore with.

Re: A thread for Rosie and Edie
I live around 10 minutes walk from the shopping area of ST Peter Port so I carried Edie while walking Rosie into town. Once there I put Edie down and we walked through the High Street and Market area where there were street entertainers to help with her socialisation. As expected she took everything in her stride.

Re: A thread for Rosie and Edie
Whenever I first mentioned I was thinking about getting a second mini I seem to recall that was loudest advice was that I must have plenty of energy. Well I thought, Rosie was a walk in the park. just how difficult can a second one be? Well It's a long time since I've been as tired
Rosie and Edie? Chalk and cheese!
In all aspects they are at opposite ends of the spectrum
Rosie is reserved, Edie is outgoing.
Rosie grazes her food and savours every mouthful, Edie in hales her food and I doubt whether she knows the taste.
Rosie sleeps very lightly, Edie falls unconscious.
Rosie loves to please and hates to be chastened, Edie's her own girl and cares nothing for praise.
Rosie is respectful of items not given to her to play with, Edie's view is that anything I can reach is mine.
Rosie slept through the night from week 1, Edie stores everything up to void when it's dark though she does alert me so I can let her out.
Rosie had an inherent sense of what a lead was for, Edie thinks it's unnecessary and if I bite it often enough I'll get my freedom.`
All that said, they are a fantastic pair of dogs that complement each other as companions and for my family. I love them both for their different characters and what they bring out in each other. I'm lucky to have them and tell them that every day

Sam, that is so funny and a really good reminder of what having a puppy can be like. I really think that when they get to 1 year old it is bliss.

Re: A thread for Rosie and Edie
Purely a generalization and not a proven fact but with kids the first always seems to be the most reserved, then the second seems to be the wild child. Having been on the forum a few years this also seems to happen a lot with schnauzers
Maybe that's why it's taking a while to get the second, I need to build up to it
