Mini puppy wanted

The Miniature Schnauzer is a smallest dog in the Schnauzer breed and originated in the mid-to-late 19th Century from Germany. The Miniature Schnauzer is a cross between the Standard Schnauzer and other smaller breeds such as the Poodle. A miniature Schnauzer is a spunky, but aloof dog who does things their own way. They tend to be good guard dogs without the tendency to bite.

As with all recommendations regarding litters of pups, do be vigilant to check them out fully.

Health testing should be one priority:

Getting the full pedigree details of both parents is also vital so their health details can be checked online at MyKC:

https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/servic ... fault.aspx

And meeting the breeder/s on more than one occasion to spend time talking with them about the litter, individual pups and discussing your experience with the breed etc. your family, home environment, expectations for the future with the puppy. Most good breeders will be able to recommend which puppy will best suit your home and family from their knowledge of the individual pups over the weeks before they are ready to go to a new home. As well, of course it is imperative that you see the mother with her pups at the birth home and get full details of how the pups are being raised in the house, socialisation, enrichment programme etc.

The best chance of avoiding health and behaviour issues in a puppy that is introduced to your family is to be certain that it has had the best possible start in life and that the breeder will be there for advice and support if needed throughout that puppy's life.

Good luck :)

They are an addictive breed :))

I thought it worth mentioning regarding health and the way pups are raised as so much has changed over the years. The additional DNA test for MAC; the availability of health test pedigrees; importance of early experience with neonate pups etc. As well as the darker side of online puppy sales and dealers using home set-ups to try and convince puppy buyers they are getting a home bred pup when it has been brought in from a puppy farm. So different from when we got our first mini schnauzer pup in January 1997. Some things do remain the same though of course - the passion of the best breeders for the breed and the commitment to find the best possible homes for their pups :)

Do check the Assured Breeder lists on the Kennel Club website as, although you should still make your own decision as to how well the breeder is raising their pups etc., it is only Assured Breeders who are inspected by trained assessors and who commit to the highest standards of welfare in their breeding programme. Some breeders advertise their pups as KC registered as though this carries a guarantee of good breeding practices but, as stated on the Kennel Club website, registration alone is available for a fee to breeders where both parents have an established pedigree, and does not require health testing nor are breeders subject to KC inspection:

"Our registration system is akin to Somerset House for people - it is a simple record of a puppy's birth and provides a number of benefits supporting responsible dog ownership.

The Assured Breeder Scheme, on the other hand, is similar to a 'kitemark' that shows the breeder has agreed to follow recommended breeding guidelines. They make use of mandatory health screening schemes, such as testing for hip problems and eye conditions, which helps owners to predict the future health of their puppy."
