Useful suppliments for the older Schnauzer

Post by Stacey100 »

Hi All

Just my opinion but seeing as I have an older Schnauzer (10 years old now) I have been supplimenting his diet with little extras and thought that you all may find it useful too if you are not already aware.

Obviously I suppliment him with cod liver oil and Glucosimine but have been using extra herbal suppliments for a few years now which I have found help him a lot.

The site is Dorwest Herbs who specialise in veterinarian and non-veterinarian herbal medicine for pets. I have him on a maintenance dose of Mixed vegetable tablets and Garlic and Fenagreek Tablets, both are geared towards helping with Arthritic pain and discomfort, keeping joints supple, helping with normal urinary function among other things. One of the two, cannot remember which now off the top of my head also helps with skin conditions which was very useful when dealing with 'Schnauzer bumps' which used to flare up on Murf when he was younger but no longer suffers with.

They obviously have many many other herbal tablets for a wide range of other ailments and conditions and I would recommend them.

Hope that was of interest.

Stacey

Oooh, thanks, Stacey, I'll have a look and see if there is anything new to try for my ol' lady *Tula frowns*......I am currently trying the fish oil from fish4dogs but I cant say I have seen a huge amount of difference, possibly because they get quite a bit of fish in their diets anyway.

I hadn't thought that it would help ward off fleas, it doesn't do their breath any favours, Fooooeee! (confused)

Seaweed and apple cider vinegar, now that sounds interesting, I wonder what the benefit of that is, let me know?

I use a company called Higher Nature (for my suppliments as well as its all natural) they do an animal range of suppliments and oil ect and there aloe vera gel is really good and so handy, it can be taken internally to help with all sorts of things ( for the old and young) and extenally for sores or cuts ect
Dawn (human) and my monochromatic friend Jasper, born 4th April 09 my Mini Schnauzer to the rescue

The reason dogs have so many friends is because they wag their tails instead of their tongues.

Thanks for that Schett, I shall check that out, I have heard of Apple cider vinegar used to suppliment horses food, never considered it for dogs.

Over the last few years we used a supplement for Jasmine called Flexadin, it's a combination of glucosamine & some herbs which are good for joints. She liked it and it was cheaper than the Synoquin we'd had her one before switching. Jasmine regularly travelled to France with us and our French vet got us onto the Flexadin and then I was able to source it online here in the UK.
