Barney and agility so far

Post by Dawnspell »

We've had 9 or 10 lessons now. I wasn't sure if Barney was really enjoying it (he can be a bit laid back take it in your stride kind of chap) until we went to a steam fair in UK and they had agility equipment set up for a display. He went mad whining and yowling wanting to get in. Then when the dogs came out he was beside himself wanting to join in =)) So I figured that answered my question.

We've had a trainer come over from Jersey who's been competing in agility for 28 years with various breeds. Yesterday morning was 3hrs outside for beginners, 8 of us in total. We normally only have 4 dogs and he's very dog orientated so wasn't sure how excited he was going to be

He's only done the 'A' frame once and we concentrated on that for a while he was fine. We then did the walk which he has never done. One of us either side with 2 leads going slow and doing the 2 on 2 off at the end. He was fine so then it as just me with him on the lead no problems :-bd

At the end she set up a course for us to do no lead, no touching the dog to guide it. 'A' frame to start, series of 6 jumps with reverse turn and forward cross overs, through the tunnel, change direction over a jump, then dog walk making sure to stop for contact point then run on to finish. 10 pieces of apparatus I was worried I'd forget where I was going :-o

He did it all no mistakes apart from 2 pauses at jumps, even ran across the walk which he only encountered that day, and I managed the fancy footwork for the cross overs :D

I was impressed by my boy he did as well as some who have been going nearly a year. He slept for 4 hours solid when we got home, didn't move a muscle. A tired dog is a happy dog

No pictures I'm afraid no camera man

Albert and Scott did a 6 week starter course.... Albert loved it!

For the last 3 weeks he had 1:1 lessons as the other person didnt turn up!!!!!

He did so well... I know its not a full size course or full size equipment but it's just for fun :-)

He can now join in on the second session as and when we want to! Scott wanted a little break then we will try him out at the second session.

That's a great video well done to Go Albert Team :-bd Scott would get told off at our club for whistling and clapping =)) I got told off in about the second class for clicking my fingers out of desperation to get Barneys attention =)) Size doesnt matter as they say :D its the fact hes doing the different apparatus.
We've only got a few weeks then it finishes until Feb as its outside in a field :(
