Swelling on foot/between toes

Looking after the health and welfare of your Schnauzer can be a full time job. You will find information on neutering, spaying, vaccinations, vet visits, upset tummies, Schnauzer bumps and much more here. Ask a question and someone will have had a similar experience. We also appreciate updates on how your Schnauzer is recuperating. A separate section is dedicated to our older Schnauzers.

Or get an Animalintex poultice from the equine place and use a bit of that!

Tulip wrote:I have lots of that in the cuboard, thanks Dannie! I'll google now to figure out how to use it. x
when we used it on a spaniel at the kennels we put a generous amount on the lump (between his toes) then popped a bit of cotton wool over it and put a sock on to stop any much getting in.

After putting some on last night it's looking much better already, it's gone right down and (fingers crossed) no sign of any more lumps coming up! Thanks everyone!

Yes - my Giant had this - I cannot remember the name of it but it was something to do with an autoimmune reaction. Just kept coming back and had to be managed not cured.

Was it inter-digital cysts? Henrys lump I thought had gone hasn't and the vet thinks that it could be one of these :(

Finally remembered

inter digital furunculosis. Basically incurable but can be managed. Having now googled it there is another forum where people discuss this problem and have had good results with an antibacterial cream .

I honestly believe that it was this autoimmune problem that caused my Giants recurring splenic mast cell tumours - and there is a research paper that discusses this link.

I have resurrected this as it seems very similar to what Otto has. The poultice seemed to eject some stuff from the pimples on the webbing which looked like infected mite bites. There were also some hairs in the webbed area that just came away with pus on the follicles. I have been bathing in Epsom salts and the area looks much better. The swelling on the inside of the toe did get larger but has gone back not quite normal but it looks to be on the mend but no pain, no itching no limping, I can prod it. I don't think anything is embedded but this thread has given me some other things to check. Not completely sorted yet but really odd that something so inflamed and red didn't bother him at all.

All back to normal now. I do think it was infected bites that caused infected follicles. It was the swelling in the toe which concerned me but I guess that is what can happen with an infection.

So glad to hear it is better now :)

I think we are constantly learning where our dogs’ health is concerned and it is good to know how to treat something like that successfully yourself too.
