I hope things are improving for little alfie.
What i look at your two in their photo,I smile because they are such an uplifting pair...such big characters! You can just see it.
I had eleven years of health issues with my last dog( auto immune issues..she was allergic to her own gut bacteria)..
..so I understand the ups and downs that physically take a hold on you.You only have to look at your dog to see what expression is on their face,to predict the day ahead..hang on in there. Its really hard some days to see them falter, but when you see them gain a few steps ahead it's all worth it.

Oh Alison, so sorry to hear the news isn't as good as you were hoping for. I've just seen your lovely boys in the Dog Trust magazine, Wag, bless them. Just do your very best for Alfie, as you always do, he knows how much you love him and will look after him, whatever is thrown at you. Big hugs to you all :ymhug: :ymhug:

Thank you, Sue - I completely agree none of our dogs, who are unfortunate enough to have serious health issues, deserve their lot. But they are so brave and just carry on in so many cases. They can teach us humans a thing or two ;) I hope things are improving for you & Lexi xx

Thank you & I'm glad they make you smile :D - I lose count of how many times a day they make me smile. Having loved & lost a number of dogs before, I know how precious our time with them is and hate to think of a time when that will no longer be the case. Both Alfie & Duke are very special boys and we were very lucky to have found them. For now, Alfie is back more or less to his old self - chasing rabbits on the horizon this morning - so we have to be grateful for this and try to keep them healthy for as long as we can xx

I had the Wag magazine unopened on the kitchen table - this has made my day, thank you for telling me. \:D/ I sent it to them some time ago and back then, they didn't have room for it. How lovely :D Thank you also for your kind words. I had one of Alfie's special cuddles today, he really schnuggles in, upside down :ymhug: :x

Sorry to hear about the retina problems.I feel for you . We had our Tia our black minis cataracts done on 29 Feb by Christine in Leominster and today was the day for a check up .
Tia is also diabetic and was 13 last Tuesday but responded well to her operation that alas was only able to have a lens in one eye as the sac was not reparable for the lens in the other eye but Christine removed both the cataracts
. Todays check included a photograph of the eyes so it was great to see no sign of cataracts in either eyes and the pressures were good, We have a change in drops medication but all is looking good , so keep positive

I cannot thank the team in Leominster and particularly Christine .

It is great that she does a clinic once a fortnight 5 miles from our home so we do not have a 70 mile each way trip

Good luck from Bob and Judy and her ladyship Tia

Hi Bob

Thank you for sharing your experience with Tia and I'm very glad she is doing so well :D

Alfie & Duke were Diabetic for approximately 12 months each before they both went on to develop cataracts in both eyes. We estimate they are now 8 or 9 years old. Alfie's cataract operation was 18 months ago, so we initially had a wonderful result. Touch wood, his left eye is still ok and we will be arranging check-ups every 2-3 months for both boys to proactively monitor their eye health even if they show no specific symptoms from now on.

The Leominster clinic would have been ideal for us, but unfortunately we didn't have such a great experience there initially when time was of the essence for Alfie. Due to this, we switched to Dursley and couldn't ask for a better specialist than Brian. Maybe if we'd met Christine, things would have been different and I'm pleased for you, you don't have the added trial of travel.

I'm sure anyone who has been in our situation will stress the importance of a good relationship with both vet and specialists.

Thank you again for your good wishes.
