Flea Treatments Polluting UK rivers

Post by zeta1454 »

Chemical flea treatments applied to the skin of dogs have been highlighted as a major source of severe and dangerous pollution in UK water courses. The chemicals can be extremely long lasting and have a devastating effect on aquatic life as well as insects that drink from the water. The main chemical concerned is Imidacloprid which is the main ingredient in many spot on treatments but there is ongoing research to establish which other of this type of insecticide is also found in pet flea treatments:

Yet another compelling reason for avoiding insecticides on dogs that can also damage the health of the dog itself.
