S&P or Black & Silver?

The Standard Schnauzer is a working or utility dog and is the original breed of the three sizes. Standard Schnauzers are generally a robust, squarely built, medium-sized dog with aristocratic bearings.

S&P or Black & Silver?

Post by Kerri »

Hi all, I am new to forum and is my first Schnauzer. She is 6 weeks in picture and still a couple weeks until we can bring her home. So excited!

The sellers say she is Black & Silver, but we have researched a bit and think it's possible she is S&P. Not that it matters, but am curious to get some feedback please :)

Mum is S&P, dad is Blk Silver. Kerri

Welcome to the Forum :-)

You are right that your puppy is Pepper & Salt.
Black and silver puppies have solid black ears with no other colour even from birth.
This is a photo of a black and silver puppy:

As you say though the colour should not be important if you have a lovely healthy little puppy :-)

Just to add, regarding the colour of the parent dogs, there must be genes for black and silver on both sides of the pedigree although it does not mean the parent dogs themselves have to both be black and silver. It is actually possible to have one or more black and silver puppies born to parent dogs that are both pepper and salt but both will have to be carrying the gene for B&S.
You should be able to check colour / health etc of the parent dogs ( if you have their KC registered names) on MyKC:

Yes, very healthy puppy. Vet check done a couple days ago, both mum and dad are gorgeously healthy too.

Your puppy is s/p, no doubt abput it. Black and silver is not a recognized color for Standards ou Giants. Did the breeder provided you your puppy's pedigree?

Definitely p&s. My black and silver puppies had jet black heads and ears from birth with golden paws and beard which turned white before they left us.
