Differences between the colours?
Like most of you know I'm looking after my friend Steffi's Giant and a Mini for couple of weeks.
Her Mini Luigi is the most wonderful little dog, so quiet and very affectionate.
This got me thinking if there is a difference in behaviour between the colours on Miniatures?
I know some yappier than others, but is it more to do with lines than colour? Or does colour matter?

Re: Differences between the colours?
Interesting thread, I often wonder about this too as alot of the dogs in this country have mixed colour ancestry. Obviously in standards they say the blacks are more biddable but if that dog is from a mixed colour background can that still be the case? Can temperament really be related to their colour genes, or is the dog we have just what we make it? Nature or nurture?

Re: Differences between the colours?
I've wondered this about the colours too, I know in some breeds eg Cockers there is supposedly a difference in temperaments between colours.
Dex & Lou are both P & S and have completely different breeding and completely different temperaments. As we've really 'raised' them both in the same way I think nature has a lot to do with their temperaments although instances can occur that affect their personality's, Dexter is still basically a Victor Meldrew and Louis is basically a Frank Spencer (giggle)

Re: Differences between the colours?
I think that in Giants the colour definatly makes a difference. I think the p/s are more schnauzery and basic doggie [possibly because they are closer to the original schnauzer]
Blacks are in my opinion cleverer and think for themselves.

Re: Differences between the colours?
Ive never known a more loving dog than Alf he would happily cuddle all day. I have heared that the whites are very loving but can't compare.
We need Jo or Dannie to answer the question as they have or have had all 4 colours. ( I think )

Re: Differences between the colours?
Barney is S/P, very quiet and is very affectionate.
Bella, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. Shes black and is yappy and very aloof, although she can be cuddly when she wants.
Not sure if it's a colour thing or the difference between boys and girls, as Bella is the first girl dog I've ever had.

Re: Differences between the colours?
ours are both S&P but bryn is nearly all black apart from his grey paws, and a white 'bar on his chest, they are both very yappy and would love to know how you stop the yapping, as it drives me to distraction some times. Still love them both to bits though. [mini dog]

My p&s standard was a fiesty little madam. This black standard is as soft as a brush. And much smarter.
Poppy: p&s standard 27.4.99 - 13.9.10
Bluebell: black standard 20.10.10
Basil: black standard 28.11.12

Re: Differences between the colours?
Max is black and silver very laid back and not at all yappie - hardly barked at all until Monty s/p came along - Monty can bark and yap for England. Neither are particularly cuddly boys but do like a little snuggle sometimes.

Re: Differences between the colours?
navman, was it your pup who was yapping away on the walk? That one is black and silver, not p/s.
The b/s have a rep of being the 'naughty' colour
Whites i have met and lived with tend to be like lewis, quiet, docile etc
p/s, the ones I have had from mainly p/s lines have been a bit dull and boring (bear in mind i live with mainly b/s!!)
the black i had was just bloody minded
If there is a breeder or group of breeders who work together and like the same colour/temperaments then they are going to breed for a particular temperament and that will influence the reputation of a colour to some degree

Re: Differences between the colours?
Daisy's p/s - and is cuddly, and intelligent, and loving - but with a bit of a naughty streak in her.
She has b/s in her line though, so maybe it gives her the edge?!
TBH - she could be pink and purple with yellow dots (or parti!!) and I'd still think she was the best dog in the world

Re: Differences between the colours?
I have had 3 Mini Schnauzers - and only my latest one Tegan is yappy.......I think if she had been my first I would not have got more Minis!
My first two came from famous showlines, but Tegan has not got such a good pedigree. I did not get her until she was 18 months old, so I am not sure if her behaviour is down to her previous owners or her ancestors or maybe a bit of both(confused)
