Second National Schnauzer Walk - 18/19 May 2013

Post by Dinkum »

The second National Schnauzer Walk is taking place on the weekend of 18 and 19 May 2013.

The chosen venue for this years walk is the Dovedale Trail in the Peak District. The walk will commence at 13:00 on Saturday, 18 May 2013. The chosen route is approx 6.5 miles long in a circular route taking in some beautiful countryside. The mid point of the walk is the little village of Milldale. Here there is an opportunity to catch your breath, have a cup of tea, relax with your fellow walkers before we return to the starting point.

We will start meeting in the car park at Dovedale around 12:30. The GPS co-ordinates for the car park are 53.055434,-1.782888 and the nearest postcode is DE6 2AX. Map here

More information about the walk is available here. For those that feel unable to complete the full circuit, it has been suggested that members could turn around and head back the way they came. There is a tea room at the car park to relax and enjoy the country air.

Some of the members are staying overnight in the area and the more adventurous (or crazy in my case) are camping. The following two sites seem popular with other members.

There is a discussion here on the various accommodation options.

We are planning a second morning walk for Sunday, 19 May 2013. The venue for the Sunday walk has yet to be decided, but we will meet at 11:30 for a 12:00 start. This will give those travelling further afield time to enjoy the walk and then make their way back home. We may try the alternative route proposed last year, but a route that no one could find. If we decide on this one, then we have the same starting point as the Saturday walk.

As 2.5 miles for the round trip I thought it wouldn't be too long for anyone who has to drive back after but long enough to have a good natter on the way round and we can always extend it by walking up Thorpe Cloud after depending on who feels fit enough. It's also nice and easy in that it can be the same start point as the Saturday walk.
For those interested and those us that are staying overnight, we are having an evening meal at the Bentley Brook Inn http://www.bentleybrookinn.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; on the Saturday evening. Meeting at the pub at 18:30 for dinner at 19:00. If you are interested in joining us, please visit this thread and add your name. http://www.schnauzer-forum.co.uk/viewto ... 53&t=13964" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Please note that we need to arrange with the pub beforehand, so please be sure to add your name if you want to eat with the group. Due to the numbers involved, our schnauzers will have to stay at home / in the car. Those of us that attended last time had a great time and it was great to catch up over a glass of wine and good food.

The 2nd Annual Schnauzer walk has its own topic section here.
