Our Schnauzers love to be active. Have a look which activity will suit your dog. There is everything from Agility, flyball, Rally-O, Cani-X to Schutzhund.
Bonnie has now started - don't think many awards will be coming our way though - she refused the tunnel and wasn't terribly keen on the A-frame ! But its early days yet - watch this space !!
After 6 weeks of not running particularly well due to allergies Bertie was back on form today and managed a clear round in the combined 1-7 jumping and won Grade 5 agility.
We need 3 wins to progress from Grade 5 to Grade 6 so this is the first of 3 required. I reckon we are now Grade 5 1/3.
So my question is....how do you get a stubborn schnauzer to do agility??????
It is only upon playing silly games at puppy training that I realised....Lolah can be a stubborn beast if she wants to!!!!
The game consisted of 3 of us with our pups, all holding each other's lead too and passing a hoop round us from one end to the other....well I could have predicted what happened next...I was in the middle...I passed the hoop over me and it was now Lolah's turn to gently step through this ginormous hoop....well she had us and the trainers in fits of laughter.....but alas she was not going to budge!!!
The other team with one more dog ....and no schbauzer clearly win that game, but I think our team had the most fun!!!!
It starts by making it fun for them. Encouraging them to work for treats or toys and, if you're lucky, they start to love doing it and want to work. Bertie will work at it all day because he enjoys it so much. Arthur needs a lot of encouragement to get round a course and loses interest after about 40 minutes training. It's looking like Boris is going to love it from his puppy agility sessions.
Not posted on this thread for a while but it's been a good agility year so far this year. Earlier in the year at dartford show we had our second win towards grade 5. At the Agility Club show back in July we qualified for Crufts 2016 with the schnauzer club team And finally after a few near misses and second places we finally got our third win to take us up to grade 6 at Paws in the park.
The tally for the weekend was 1st in Grade 5 agility, 3rd in grade 5 jumping and clears in 3-5 agility, 4-7 agility, 3-5 jumping and 3-6 steeplechase.
