bag / rucksack recommendations
hello, if all goes to plan we will be getting a b&s mini at the end of July.
I am looking for a bag or rucksack to take her out and about while waiting for vaccinations to be complete. I am hoping this will aid socialisation plus it means that my children aren't stuck indoors throughout the school holidays!
I guess I'm looking for something simple but effective that will last a minimum of 6 weeks!
Thanks for your help

Re: bag / rucksack recommendations
Type puppy carrier into ebay or amazon and a whole selection will come up.
Personally I'd go for the hands free, shoulder sling type where the puppy is at the front. Easier to keep an eye on pup and can reward for good behaviours when it happens. eg not barking at cyclists going past, calm behaviour in busy areas etc.

Hi Menna,
I wanted to do exactly what you are intending but never got round to getting a carrier. I just carried her everywhere when I took her out to socialise her with my hand under her body and her head up by my elbow. She was no trouble at all. Just took everything in.
We were told by the vet that we could walk her on the beach after high tide when the beach would have been freshened by the tide and we did this as often as we could. I also walked her in the garden to get her used to a collar and lead and by the time she was able to be walked on the streets she was already great at walking on a loose lead.
She'll be a wonderful addition to your family I'm sure.

Re: bag / rucksack recommendations
Cheap and cheerful for us...the pup went into a generic pet shoulder bag( didn't cost more than 20 euros) at eight weeks and went absolutely everywhere with my big dog ....once she was around four months she was already walkng twenty mins..
For me the bag allowed the pup to be safely included, see absolutely everything( cows, tractors, pods of racing bikes flashing by,heavy traffic etc) ...she is absolutely bomb proof now...
If you predict the pup will be at least ten kilos as an adult,it will be too heavy to carry in your arms,so you should get the bag to cover puppyhood and then the dog will not need it..ie...id forsake the more expensive rucksack.
I heartily support that pup gets out and about...the carry bag Is a wonderful way to safely expose and socialise your pup ,but these little schnauzers will be on the ground in no time...the pup should be walked ,then returned to bag when tired so your outing can continue...dont forget the water bottle,July will be hot!

Re: bag / rucksack recommendations
thanks all. I am not intending to spend loads on it.
Sam I think carrying might be tricky with 2 kids in tow, holding hands to cross the road etc. We do live buy the beach so that's encouraging but the beach is very busy where we live so depends on tide times!
Jo, of course I'm going to get her to walk as soon as she's allowed and only use the bag when she's tired.Am used to remembering water bottles with the kids so one more will be no problem ;-)

..we live in the foothills of the alps..look out for the unexpected that we encounter daily on our walks...first is sheep coming down from the mountains..into a local park...your dog has to have a good recall LOL
View from my back garden
And five mins from home..our piste ciclabile...the cycle path..where racing bikes flash past in groups up to twenty...dogs have to learn to walk in to side and at heel...

Thanks..i love it here,I have been here for nearly thirty years now..this is my third st poodle, all home groomed.
The schnauzer is definitely better suited to the lifestyle here,so easy to keep in stripped coat and seems to shrug off the ticks etc..the poodle however is a tick and seed magnet.

We had a lot of fun with this....managed around town and some long hikes...From a socialization point of view it was a real winner.....every one commented and could say hello.
