Our beautiful baby, gone too soon
At 18:30 today, our beautiful baby Holly was put to sleep and crossed over the rainbow bridge and get her wings.
Holly struggled with juvenille renal disease for all of her 22 months - the last 2 months being the worst. She had her final 'flush' last week and came home from hospital on Saturday looking a little perkier but not at all herself. The vet said she should come home for end of life care - and so we loved her, cuddled her, spoiled her as much as we could. I cooked her steak, chicken, pork, lamb but she wouldnt touch any of it - no food at all, and not enough strength to jump on the sofa, we knew it was time.
We got to the vets and Holly wanted a little wander around the car park, so we followed her round, she had a little wee and then followed us inside. I wanted to run out as I sat holding her in my arms, I wanted it all to be better and this to all have been a bad nightmare - but then the vet called her name.
As soon as the venflon was in her arm, I held her close, kissing her and telling her what good girl she was and how much I loved her - I felt her relax - she was gone. Her little pink tongue was sticking out just the tiniest bit and she looked so peaceful and beautiful - it didn't feel real but my tears told me otherwise. I gave her, her last tummy rub.
We love you so very much Holly - be happy and run around over the rainbow bridge - and you can have all the tummy rubs you will ever want. Pippin loves and misses you too.

Re: Our beautiful baby, gone too soon
Thank you Jo and Mike - my heart is broken, but I have to keep telling myself that prolonging life is good but prolonging death . . . and I’ve got to stay cheery for Pippin.
We’ve decided to have her cremated and ashes buried in our garden, where she loved to play - getting teary again
But we’re ok thanks x

Re: Our beautiful baby, gone too soon
Thank you everyone for your kind words and thoughts, it means a lot to me and I really appreciate it - my heart is broken but I know only time will help to heal.
Today Pippin came for his morning cuddle and then jumped down and went into Holly’s bed, and went to sleep - he’s been quieter than usual, and not really wanted to play with me, or even be near me really. Is it because I’m sad and he’s picked up on it or because he’s missing her as much as I do? Or maybe he thinks I took her away? Do dogs think that way even? In the past I’ve always had single dogs so haven’t any experience in this way. Any ideas? X

Autumn, they certainly can grieve and be depressed. Poor Pippin... Found this article that might help.
