Re: Introducing Rosie
So sweet - just like my Oscar who was also an observer. He used to start a rumpus by barking and then have that "oh I didn't expect that" look on his face. You would never find him in the middle of anything except maybe his dinner bowl...

Re: Introducing Rosie
We walked on l'Ancresse Common this morning, enjoying the sunshine and I took this photo overlooking l'Ancresse and Pembroke Bay before heading back to the car to get Rosie some water.

Sam, she really looks like an "I'm up for it" girl in that photo.

I agree, she does look as if she has attitude but her personality is the complete opposite.Oscar 12345 wrote: ↑27 May 2018, 17:06 Sam, she really looks like an "I'm up for it" girl in that photo.

Re: Introducing Rosie
Rosie's coming up to a year old (this Friday) and serious consideration is being given to adding another mini to our family. We've been in contact for some time now with a KC assured breeder who has pups that are three weeks old today. We just need to finalise the pro's and con's and consider the timing (which would be early August).

Re: Introducing Rosie
You're braver than me I'd want to wait until Rosie is at least 2 years. You know the dog you've got by then and hopefully got all the bad habits sorted that wont get passed onto a new pup, and the good ones that you want her to teach the new pup. Some go through a second adolescence stage at around a year old and its back to basics again with training.

Re: Introducing Rosie
Blimey Sam, you must have some energy.... Otto is the same age as Rosie and just the thought of adding another puppy leaves me wanting to lie down and put a cold towel around my head. Perhaps it is a boy girl thing. I am thinking of waiting until Otto is 3/4, I might have got over the puppy stage by then..... Another consideration for me is losing one to old age and then losing the other one quickly after that for the same reason. Whereas introducing a puppy when the dog is a few years older hopefully will mean that you still have a dog around the house for a few years after one has gone.

Re: Introducing Rosie
Hi Sam,
We added another Schnauzer to our family and it was the best thing we could have done. Oscar (boy mini) was around 2 years old by then and hopefully comfortable in his environment, he didn't take to Sasha at first but after a few days/week he realised she wasn't going anywhere. They love one another so much now and play all the time, Sasha is Oscars shadow and she is such a cutie.
So in a nutshell, if you have time and money (additional insurance/food etc) then do it but I would agree with others that as tough as it may be to wait, you may be better off for Rosie to be nearer two, just so those puppy stages are out of the way. Sasha definitely took to the obedience side of things quicker than Oscar but she did copy a lot of his behaviour, so the fact he could sit/wait/stay/down/come etc on command, meant she picked it up easier.
If you already have Rosie at that good obedience stage then even better
By the way, I love the pictures you have posted of her, she looks cracking.
Kind regards
Mike

Re: Introducing Rosie
We're doing our long walk late in the day when the temperature's beginning to drop. I found the perfect bench for schnauzer owners everywhere.

Re: Introducing Rosie
Love it. Shame we don't do the schnauzer calendar anymore.
Think I might have to pop down with Barney and do a white version

Re: Introducing Rosie
If you do Alison, the bench "loved by so many" is on the raised viewing area on the left of the yacht club.
Thanks Mike and Julie. Rosie was rewarded with a doggy ice cream cone after the picture was taken.

Re: Introducing Rosie
I took Rosie for a walk tonight on Grandes Rocques beach. We hung around playing until the sun was going down as I wanted to take some photographs when Rosie decided to get in on the act

Sam that is a beautiful shot. We could do a schnauzer calendar with these lovely photos.
