Anyone using cool jackets?
Morning. I'm just about to buy some cooling jackets for my 2 giants. Anyone got any experience of them?

Hi Kate, I've no personal experience of them but have a friend with Malamutes who uses them extensively in the current weather and finds them a great help in keeping her dogs more comfortable.

Re: Anyone using cool jackets?
Hi Kate,
I bought a couple the other week and we have used them on our mini's - my wife used to just lay a cold flannel over them but these jackets are better. They are pretty thin (our ones are blue) and you just rinse them under the cold tap, squeeze them out a little so they are not dripping wet, then fit them on. Our ones secure around the neck and under the tummy I think. Oscar doesn't like it on at first but he enjoys the cool that it gives him.
I'm not sure of the brand (I have the packaging at home so can confirm then) but we bought a size S for Sasha (who is around 8kg) and a size M for Oscar (who is 13kg).

Kate the easidri performance was recommended to me. Not got one though, we've got SCSCS (schnauzer coat = slab of concrete on back syndrome) at this house.

Re: Anyone using cool jackets?
We have found them invaluable in the hot weather for our dogs but they are minis so could not comment on how well a GS would tolerate one. We have tried a few different brands over the years and would say we prefer the Easidri or the Aquamat. You can get a cooling vest such as the Hurtta ones which only cover the chest and neck area but we found the whole body ones better for our little dogs (just a personal view).

We also use the cooling mats indoors which are good but, if it is for when the dogs are out and about the cooling coats are great. You may need to have access to cold water though if you are out for a long while as the coats do need resoaking after a couple of hours at least I would say.

These are the cooling coats I referenced in an earlier reply, they are Ancol cooling coats: http://www.ancol.co.uk/dog-products/coats/cooling-vests

Re: Anyone using cool jackets?
Wow, thanks for the fast replies. I was looking at a company called Keep Cool dog jackets. (http://www.keepcool.org.uk/dog%20coats.htm) We're off to France later and wanted to have something to keep them cool in the car for the long journey down and whilst we're out and about. We have stone floors here which help them chill out (though they prefer wooden floors under tables or, even better, wooden floors in the middle of the b....y doorway. Looks like I'll be spending money again:))

I've not used the cool jackets but Barney likes his cool gel mat to lay on.

My cool gel pad has just arrived, very clever technology. Otto has been standing on it and sitting on it already (as have I). If he doesn't use it I will.

I got a surprise how cold it was when I stood on it in bare feet for the first time. You can get them as pillow inserts.Oscar 12345 wrote: ↑12 Jul 2018, 17:56 My cool gel pad has just arrived, very clever technology. Otto has been standing on it and sitting on it already (as have I).
