Introducing Schnauzer number 2
This is the little bundle who'll be coming to Guernsey to be schnauzer number 2 in our home and a companion for Rosie. We have a few names in mind for her but haven't fully decided, as yet.
She is just over 5 weeks old at the moment and we hope to pick her up in 16 days from the KC assured breeder in the UK.

Oh Sam, you have to stop this, you are making me want another. Just adorable, cutest puppy of the day by far and lovely markings. I could eat her up.... Can't wait to hear how her first meeting with Rosie goes.

Re: Introducing Schnauzer number 2
Julie, we are not fully sure about how Rosie will take to her. We expect a lot of noise and perhaps a little bit of sulking but think she will be happy with the company in time. We've arranged our leave so that either my wife or I will be at home for the first 5 weeks to ensure harmony between them and get the little scrap socialised and house trained.Oscar 12345 wrote: ↑18 Jul 2018, 09:53 Oh Sam, you have to stop this, you are making me want another. Re: Introducing Schnauzer number 2
I'd love that Alison - someone to split the hire of the plane with
Actually it's not all bad. To do it by ferry would be £480 for the ferry plus petrol and one night in a hotel with an 8 week pup or going by plane means I leave Guernsey at 9 and will be home by lunch for £600 so not a great deal of difference. Much less trauma for the puppy too.

Re: Introducing Schnauzer number 2
She looks adorable - having 2 around the house is brilliant. Rosie may be put out at first but I am sure she will love her new little sister in no time at all.
Now I'm getting all broody for a 3rd
Please keep us updated with pictures and news and of course her name once you have chosen.

Thanks Jo. This wee one will be stripped from the start though it will just be carding twice a week when she first comes home.

Re: Introducing Schnauzer number 2
Mike, I'm really looking to seeing the two run round the place. My expectations are that the new one will follow Rosie everywhere, at least at the start. Rosie is submissive so I need to ensure that she's not overwhelmed with the puppy as it grows.mikegoodson1 wrote: ↑18 Jul 2018, 11:27 She looks adorable - having 2 around the house is brilliant. A third? That sounds a lovely thing for me to consider in 4 or 5 years from now. Looking forward to seeing your third sooner than that

Re: Introducing Schnauzer number 2
Sam, I guess we were quite similar to you. Our Oscar was pretty chilled and laid back, Sasha came in pretty feisty and outgoing but you know what, they soon sorted it out. Even though that hasn't changed (Oscar is still quiet and laid-back, Sasha still a minx) there are occasions where you can see that Oscar puts Sasha in her place and she accepts that. I'm no expert (just an owner) but it seems like they find their natural level.
I agree with others advice that sometimes you will need to separate them just so Rosie has a bit of quiet time but other than that, we made sure Oscar and Sasha did things together. Ate together at the same time (under supervision to ensure the puppy didn't eat Oscars food), took them out together (Sasha in one of those stupid but understandably practical, dog carriers), slept with us together and when it was play time with papa, I played with them both at the same time (still do).
The only thing I still struggle with (and you may do too) is my conscience, in so much as making sure they both get equal amounts of affection from me. My wife says I'm too soft and they don't care but I have seen the look Oscar and Sasha give me, if I am giving the other one cuddles and they are not getting any, it's almost like they are saying "that's enough, when is it my turn" - like I said, I'm probably just being silly.
Anyway, you will have loads of fun with your new puppy, just make sure Rosie is part of that too, I'm sure you will

Re: Introducing Schnauzer number 2
Mike, as soppy as it sounds, I am besotted with Rosie. Fire in the house - Rosie would be the first thing I'd be getting out (hope the wife doesn't read this) I can guarantee Rosie will not be overlooked. At the moment Rosie and I can sit on a bench at the coast and watch the world go by. I hope that all three of us will be able to do the same.
