A thread for Rosie and Edie

The Miniature Schnauzer is a smallest dog in the Schnauzer breed and originated in the mid-to-late 19th Century from Germany. The Miniature Schnauzer is a cross between the Standard Schnauzer and other smaller breeds such as the Poodle. A miniature Schnauzer is a spunky, but aloof dog who does things their own way. They tend to be good guard dogs without the tendency to bite.

Thanks Mike.

I feel very lucky living in Guernsey. Now that we're in October, sunset's at 6:45 and yet I can leave work at 5:15, drive home and get changed, and take my besties out to the beach for a walk and to watch the sun go down. This is Vazon beach on the west coast of Guernsey.

I have some lovely 'woodland' walks near me that are beautiful to walk around (especially this time of the year when the leaves start turning a golden orange) but to sound like a stuck record again :D your 'beach' pictures are stunning and I'm very jealous!

My wife was born in Guernsey and has passed on quite a bit of knowledge to me about this beautiful island. Her new job has taken her off to another island (as Jersey is called here :) ) and so I've taken a couple of days leave to be at home with my besties.

Today we walked in the Petit Bôt Valley. There are miles of off-road paths that are a delight to walk unless there's been a few days of heavy rain when the underfoot conditions make it unpleasant.

I let Edie and Rosie off the lead and, as expected, Rosie plodded alongside me and Edie when off enjoying running free. Her recall is very good and today I realised she'd seen something so I asked her to wait and when I caught up with her saw what had caught her attention; a pair of pheasants, a rooster and hen.

At the top of one of the paths is an abreuvoir, they are essentially water troughs from the late 19th century used by farmers for their livestock before piped water was available. Edie thought it shallow and jumped in and I discovered that she could swim as it was quite deep. Much to my surprise, she climbed out and jumped back in again!! My thought was that I would have to take my t-shirt off and dry her but a few shakes later, she was running around again with no concern.

By the end of the walk she'd enticed Rosie to leave my side and run ahead with her. Now we're home and they're lying fast asleep but I'll need to waken them as I intend to take them with me to the airport later when I go to pick up my wife.

Hi Philip,

If your pup came from Wiltshire and was born on 11 June then they are from the same litter. They do have the same look of trouble though :)

Edie will be 6 months old on Friday and I took her to the vet on Saturday for her 6 month check-up. Everything is well with her, all the deciduous teeth have gone and she has beautiful pearlies. The umbilical hernia that we knew about hasn't got any worse and the plan is to have it repaired when we spay her or as a stand alone op if we don't spay her. We're still undecided and will wait to see how she copes with her first season.

I took Rosie along too so that she could see how schnauzers should behave when on the vets table :)

Edie is now taller than Rosie though weighs in at 1.6kg lighter. She is a long legged skinny pup but you can see her shoulders and chest growing larger as she matures. They are the best of friends and always look out for each other. While they each want to play (or eat) with whatever the other has, they are happy to share with no growling or fighting over anything, including raw lamb ribs. They really do just get on.

Edie shows signs of having some goat genes in her. She will attempt to climb anything :) Any chairs that are left out from the table have obviously been left for her to use as a base camp for getting onto the table.

The Christmas tree was put up yesterday and while Rosie showed no interest in it last year, she is easily led into trouble by Edie so when they're left alone for a couple of hours in the afternoon, we use her old playpen to barricade the tree.

As you can probably tell, I just love having two schnauzers. Each and every day, they give me so much comfort, love and attention.

Edie is now 7 months old and is slightly taller than Rosie, although she is 1.5kg lighter. We had a walk on Pembroke beach today and I took a couple of snaps

Both girls looking good. I am sure Edie will fill out as she matures. Ours have all gone through an adolescent 'skinny' phase as they gained in height. Lovely photos :-)

Sam, lovely photos. I agree with Leigh, Otto at that age went through a "where did those legs come from" stage. They look super girls, full of life. :)

They look lovely Sam. Looks like you and the girls had the beach mostly to yourself.

There were a few other people on the beach but it was low tide so plenty of space for the girls to run around. Edie is completely carefree but Rosie is still anxious so doesn't stray too far from us. That said, the pair of them romped off quite a distance and it was lovely to see Rosie drop her guard.

Rosie was never gangly like Edie though most of her weight gain happened after she was spayed due to her pyometra. Now she's on the Nutriment raw food, she's eating really well so I don't feel the need to top her up with treats and as a consequence she's rediscovering her waistline :)

Two lovely looking girls there Sam :) Weekends are my favourite times for a walk, I usually get to take my two out on our own and of course as it's a weekend, I can just take a slow stroll and as much time as we want.

It's my favourite time of the weekend :D

Now they have worked out their relationship Rosie and Edie have established a really close bond and it's very rare to see one without the other. They know what buttons they need to press on each other to ensure they get a play fight going :)

Edie's getting towards the end of her first season. Apart from a little bleeding and a some swelling, it's been relatively unremarkable. I think it's likely that we'll wait at least another season before deciding whether to spay her or not.

I think I should be able to let her run off the lead next weekend without worrying about bumping into other dogs.
