Spay question...

Looking after the health and welfare of your Schnauzer can be a full time job. You will find information on neutering, spaying, vaccinations, vet visits, upset tummies, Schnauzer bumps and much more here. Ask a question and someone will have had a similar experience. We also appreciate updates on how your Schnauzer is recuperating. A separate section is dedicated to our older Schnauzers.

Hilary, I would call my vet with the symptoms just to be safe.

That would be my call too. Sasha was quieter for a day or two after the op but not to the extent you have mentioned that Luna is experiencing. Maybe the pain relief isn't sufficient for her and needs increasing but either way, much better to be safe than sorry. Hope all goes ok.

I agree with both comments above. Your vet is the best one to advise. It does sound as though she may be in pain but the symptoms are more extreme than I would expect. However, dogs like people do vary in their pain tolerance and some cope better than others with post-operative pain, anaesthetic and even with the whole experience of having the surgery.
Hope Luna is feeling better very soon and let us know how she gets on over the next week. It is always so worrying when our dogs are not themselves for whatever reason.

Thank you for your comments. I took Luna to the vets this morning and they seem to think she is ok. Wound is healing well and doesn’t seem to be causing pain although the glue at either end might be uncomfortable. They think she might just be a little dramatic!! Feel so much better. We need to get her back into a routine as soon as possible so just about to take her out for a gentle walk.

A schnauzer being dramatic ? Never! :)

Very pleased that the vet gave Luna a clean bill of health and you've had you mind put at ease.

Pleased to hear she is OK. We have one or two drama queens here so know what they can be like :-)

Excellent news and a great relief I am sure. It is true though, drama queens (and kings) although I prefer to call them "of a somewhat sensitive nature".

Glad she's fine. I presumed she was just uncomfortable. Just the same symptoms my cat had after the similar operation.
