Meet Gus
Hi all, new to the forum and have been gaining tones of valuable tips already. Gus is 9 weeks today and we couldn't be happier with him. The last 2 nights he's slept 10 till 6 and his crate has been completely clean. ( He has cried both mornings at 6 and gone straight out).
We are finding the Nipping and biting a little bit frustrating but are offering him a toy instead when he does, or walking away.

Re: Meet Gus
Hi Alex,
Gus looks adorable. Schnauzer puppies enjoy testing their new owners with nipping; we've all been through it but it does eventually stop
Looking forward to seeing Gus grow.

Re: Meet Gus
Hi Alex, what a super photo of a lovely pup. Typical seating position of young schnauzer puppy. My experience is that if they go through the nipping stage at that very young age and you manage it as you are trying to do you can avoid the later teething nipping stage which can be a lot worse. Welcome to the forum.

Re: Meet Gus
Thanks for your replies. Small set back last night. He woke us up at 2am needing a poop. He had his first experience of rain which he wasn't too sure of so done his poop and wasn't interested in waiting round for a wee. So when we got up at 6 he had peed in his crate. Not worried as we have been very lucky so far. Any advice on how to stop him picking up every little bit of stone, moss, sticks In the garden?

Re: Meet Gus
Alex, Otto was a pain for picking stuff up. My advice is pick your battles. If it isn't going to hurt him, grass etc. then leave him to it. If it is more harmful like stones do not chase him or grab at him because he is likely to want to keep it and may swallow it, if you want it out of his mouth always take a tasty treat and do a swap. My garden has paths full of cobble stones. I decided to ignore him completely when he had a stone/stick in his mouth and act as if I was doing something much more interesting. They soon get bored unless you show interest in what they have. My first schnauzer had an operation to remove a large stone at 6 months because I tried to grab him whilst it was in his mouth...... They do stop this but it takes a long time for a puppy to not be interested in every leaf, stick, grass cutting around. You need to be the interest. Another good tip is if you see something ahead and think he will probably want that just as he is about to get it say no to distract and then feed a treat. Keep doing that and he will start to look to you before he takes something. This time last year Otto was 4 months old and in to everything, it is wonderful now and he is only interested in the odd rabbit dropping now and again.
