Growth on skin

Looking after the health and welfare of your Schnauzer can be a full time job. You will find information on neutering, spaying, vaccinations, vet visits, upset tummies, Schnauzer bumps and much more here. Ask a question and someone will have had a similar experience. We also appreciate updates on how your Schnauzer is recuperating. A separate section is dedicated to our older Schnauzers.

Growth on skin

Post by Kazz »

My giant schnauzer Ralph has a growth on the inside of his left leg which I thought was a tick. I tried to get it off, but it seems to be attached. Can anyone suggest what it could be please?. I will be taking him to the vet to check it out.

Is it a skin tag? Try googling the images of dog skin tag to see if it looks the same. They do need to get checked out. I remember having one on my 1st schnauzer and initially tried to remove it because I thought it was a tick. It turned out to be a harmless skin tag.

Hi, I will check this, thank you. It’s round & shiny like a small broad bean, I felt awful as I tried to get it out thinking it was a tick ☹️ I’m hoping it’s not cancerous

Don't be too hard on yourself, I tried to remove a nipple once with a tick twister, Otto was extremely tolerant about it.

Embarrassingly I did the same as Julie with Sasha, my girl mini, when she was a puppy. I'm such an idiot. I was tickling her tummy and then thought 'oh my God, what's that', started trying to prise it away then realised what it was....doh! :-\

Hopefully it's nothing serious for Ralph.

It could well be a tick as they do attach quite firmly while feeding.

However, your vet will confirm and probably best now to let it be until you have a diagnosis. We had a cat with a tick (many years ago now) which we thought was a skin growth before it was removed by the vet and we were better able to identify them from then on :-)

It looks like a tick but it’s tough as old boots. I’ve removed ticks off him before, he’s had frontline flea & tick as well. If it turns out to be a tick it must one fit strong 💪 tick. 😁
