Tumour on Mini`s Mouth - 14 Month old
A small lump has been developing on my minis mouth over the past 5-6 weeks. Taking for a biopsy early next week.
Has anyone seen anything or had anything similar with their Schnauzer?
Not sure if its coincidence or not, but my mini had a bad stomach, 3 days of being sick and not drinking. Soon after he started getting back to normal this developed.

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum. Poor little schnauzer... I have heard of warts in that area, I think they are called viral papillomas, hopefully it is just one of those. I wonder if dogs can get them if they are run down or immune system a bit low which could have occurred if he had been ill for a short while. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks, yes, fingers crossed its something like that. i think the vet said it could be a Histiocytoma, due to his still puppy nature he will have to be anesthetized for the biopsy.

Hope you get a positive diagnosis and it can be resolved quickly. Let us know how Boris gets on - paws and fingers crossed that he is better very soon.

Re: Tumour on Mini`s Mouth - 14 Month old
Gosh, it is such a coincidence you have posted about this. Our boy, Monty has this exact sort of growth on the top of his head and we took him to the vets yesterday. A histiocytoma was suggested. It has been there for about two weeks we think, although Monty's is hidden under his white fur so it may have been there a little longer.
Our vet had to peel off a bit of a scab from the top of it to check underneath. It didn't bleed a ridiculous amount and has already scabbed over again a little. As she was examining it, Monty didn't even flinch, it bothers him that little. She seemed to think it was almost certainly a histiocytoma and said it could resolve itself on its own in two months or so.
A biopsy was offered but the vet thought it may come back inconclusive and as our boy is 14 months, a watch and wait approach would be better. She said to keep an eye on it for a further six weeks. If it grows or changes drastically in the meantime we should go back. But her thoughts were that, if it was still there after this, we should just get it removed.
Hope your little one is OK. And please keep us posted.

Barney had one of these at around the same age. It stayed as a pink lump for a while but then suddenly increased in size and started scabbing over and turned black. He ended up having to have it surgically removed

Hi Alison, did your vet ever say what it was? Was it a histiocytoma?

Just seen a post on Mad about Schnauzers with an image of a lump exactly the same as Paul's schnauzer and on the mouth. It was indeed a histiocytoma so hopefully that's what it is. Post and image was by James Neilson 11 hours ago... several comments from other owners that have experienced them too.

Finger crossed, I should find out by the end of the week. It’s grown a bit since this photo was taken on the space of less than a week. I’ll report back once I got the results back.

Great news Paul, looks a bit like a large skin tag now doesn't it. Hope it just shrinks and disappears.
