Miniature Schnauzer - puppies in Isle of Man
Good morning
I’m in Guernsey and due to our new air bridge with the isle of man I’m looking to see if there are any Miniature schnauzer puppies for sale or Someone I can speak with.
I’m looking for a puppy as I have a five year old son and two cats so I’ll need to settle the new pup in with my family.
Many thanks
Abs Robert

Hi and Welcome
Theres myself and Schanuzer Sam in Guernsey and lots of other schanuzers We'll be available for puppy socialisation. Have you looked thorough the breeders on Champdogs and the kennel club website ?
There is a Guernsey schnauzer facebook group, Sam is on that. He maybe able to tell you if anyone breeds locally.

Re: Miniature Schnauzer - puppies in Isle of Man
Welcome to the Forum
Although there may be access from Guernsey to the Isle of Man currently, your top priority must be to find the best quality breeder you can and not compromise because of availability or location. So many miniature schnauzers are poorly bred, badly raised and put on the market by backyard breeders, dealers and puppy farmers and this situation has worsened since the lockdown measures as the worst sellers / puppy breeders are cashing in while the best are delaying having puppies as they understand the difficulties in raising / socialising / home checking in a climate of restricted movement and social distancing.
In terms of mainland UK breeders, I would always start by checking out breeders who are members of the Kennel Club Assured Breeder Scheme. This is a voluntary scheme but has high welfare standard requirements and does ensure the breeder has been inspected by a knowledgeable and experienced assessor as to their facilities, how they raise puppies and their commitment to health tests and providing a Contract of Sale and ongoing support and advice for new puppy families. Although this is not a cast iron guarantee that every Breeder on the Scheme will meet your requirements and you will need to do as many checks as possible to ensure you are confident in the integrity of wherever you source your puppy but it does give some reassurance compared with taking a gamble on an online seller.
The link to the Kennel Club ABS list is here:
https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/servic ... +Schnauzer
On a general note, do check through the topics in the Puppy Section and Breeding section of the Forum via the Board Index for some guidance on what to look for in any breeder from relevant health tests, full registered Kennel Club names of parents, to the assurance that you will be able to see mother with pups before sale and a Contract of Sale, plus much more.
Do be aware though that you are likely to need to get your name on a waiting list for a well bred puppy from a reputable breeder and that the Covid-19 crisis has led to most of the best breeders delaying having litters because of the restrictions on movement etc.
Good luck in your search and I am sure Sam and other Guernsey schnauzer owners will be able to offer useful advice and information.

Re: Miniature Schnauzer - puppies in Isle of Man
Thank you zeta1454 that is all VERY helpful!!
In terms of visiting mum and pups and being on waiting list: do you usually get to choose a puppy that best suits you and your family or does the breeder ‘assign’ you one
We have have only ever got out dogs from jersey when I was younger. One from a friends litter, then ours had her own litter. Then from an other friends litter so this is all new to me.
Thank you for the advice, I will look through all the other sections on here!!

Re: Miniature Schnauzer - puppies in Isle of Man
Hi Abs,
I saw your post on the Guernsey schnauzer FB page earlier today.
I know of 20-25 mini schnauzers on Guernsey but there hasn't been a litter bred locally for over 2 years. The lady you spoke to last on the Facebook page was the breeder and, as she told you, may be having a litter at the end of the year.
Both my girls came from the UK and the cost of getting them was £1150 and £520 respectively (both private flights). The flight to Douglas in IOM will be around £1200 as they charge for the run-time of the engines.
Any decent breeder will want to question you about your home set-up, your working hours etc. This is because they are concerned about about the welfare of their pups. If you don't get a grilling then you should be wondering about their motives. I know that the local breeder will want to do a home vist as part of her vetting procedure.
You'll find that most reputable breeders will select the pup for you taking into account your gender preference. If you're a first time dog owner then they will avoid giving you the nervous pup or "dominant" pup as even a "normal" mini schnauzer pup is a lot of hard work but you will be rewarded with the most loyal, loving companion who will follow you everywhere.
I'm happy if you want to meet up for a dog walk and a chat if that helps. You can click the contact bubble at the bottom of the profile and that sends an e-mail to my registered address.

Re: Miniature Schnauzer - puppies in Isle of Man
As Sam said, the best breeders will usually choose the puppy that suits your family set up best taking into account your experience, family members, environment etc. Raising puppies well is a full time commitment for the breeder from birth to when the pups leave and they have plenty of opportunity to assess the individual puppy's temperament and judge which will most likely fit with the family looking for a pup. It is easy to see a puppy that looks cute or boisterous or whatever catches the eye when you visit but it may not be the best one for you in the long run although breeders will try to accommodate your preference if they canAbs Robert wrote: ↑27 Jun 2020, 08:13 Thank you zeta1454 that is all VERY helpful!!
