Hi! This is our mini schnauzer, Chewbacca. He is currently 7 months old. He became part of our family at 9 weeks. He is beyond adorable and so, so much fun.
I am wondering if anyone has had biting issues with their schnauzer? He still nips at us from time to time even though I believe teething is complete. We use distraction and offer him chew toys. Does anyone have additional advice?
We walk him an hour every day and have been in puppy training.
I would stop any game play if Chewbacca nips, at least for a minute or two, before going back to the game so he will learn that touching your skin with his teeth is going to spoil the fun for him. If he is nipping to get your attention then you also need to teach him that this is not the way to engage with you by only giving him attention when he is not biting. If he does this to prevent you taking something away from him then this is a ‘resource guarding’ behaviour and you should be able to get help with changing this at the training class.
Generally speaking, nipping and biting will usually stop even without intervention as a puppy matures and seven months is still quite young
