Inspired by the threads here and having found a groomer who hand strips, I worked on my 6 month old puppy last week and thought it was all going well until I took a step back
I had stripped some parts down to the undercoat! We see the groomer next week.
Did I ruin my puppy’s coat?

I wouldnt worry too much unless you are showing. It grows back and the groomer can even it out in the meantime. Going to have a lovely coat though when it comes in

Re: Did I ruin my puppy’s coat?
Gulp, I have been showing him and had wanted to show him again at some August shows
The groomer event out the sides. I guess we'll just need to wait for it to grow back a bit.
For puppies that will be shown in confirmation, should their coats be completely stripped and then rolling started?

Re: Did I ruin my puppy’s coat?
From what I understand it all depends on the coat as a puppy. The ones that have a bit fluffier coat that stands off the body a bit tend may get stripped down then rolled. The complete stripping tends to give the wire a jump start. Although I'm sure most would try rolling first rather than just stripping down. The ones with a flat to the body type coat that almost look as though theyre already stripped can be rolled from the start.
This is Jasper at around 9 weeks you can see he already looks like hes been stripped even though he hasnt been groomed at all.
You can still show him for the experience for both of you to gain confidence.
