11 year old Miniature Schnauzer

Post by davew66 »

My miniature schnauzer, Chief, is 11 years old and is in good physical condition. But due to his oral health he recently had to have oral surgery on his gums to remove several Epulis Tumors. The surgeon also removed many teeth that were infected. Due to this situation, Chief is now on soft food. My question is how much food should I be feeding Chief? I assume it all depends on the nutritional value of the food I choose. I have been feeding him The Farmer's Dog wet food for about 2 months, but it is so expensive I can't afford it any longer.

I'm looking for wet food recommendations and how much food to feed him.

Much appreciated, thank you.

Hi Dave and welcome to the Forum.

Sorry to hear about Chief’s health issue and hope he is recovering well from the surgery.

Many of our Forum members are based in the U.K. so it is more difficult for us to recommend specific brands of food for you to give to Chief. Looking online it seems that the Farmer’s Dog food is a subscription fresh food (?). If that is the one you have been giving Chief it looks to be good quality and relatively unprocessed. If you cannot get any recommendations for particular brands on the Forum here, you could maybe consider preparing home cooked meals for Chief. There are a couple of links here but you should be able to find others if you search online and both of these do give some guidance to quantities for dogs of a particular weight:

Good luck!
