Re: Schnauzer name and type Statistics
I was thinking of some other questions about names,
What makes a good name?
Were names of extra dogs influenced by what you named the 1st etc....
I will start new post.

Well done on getting this info so quickly!
Interesting to see the split in breeds/colours. Is this what people expected?
And the 'white mini dog' scenario is one I often come across. i.e. are there really that many dogs of that type, or is this a data collection issue? I'd agree with Elaine in that it seems as if there is something not quite right there. But even at this level it's interesting to see the splits.
I have all sorts of combinations and permutations of ideas floating around:
- does the colour/breed of the dog make it any more less likely to have a name beginning with a certain letter ?
- % of dogs with names similar to their owners
- Is a male more likely to own a dog or a bitch?
- Are some colours more popular as years go on?
- average posts per user based on dog type
Maybe I'm getting carried away now! )
You really need to get out more
Our Dean is a right clever clogs but there is another post explaining how we got the high number of white mini's ;)
To answer your questions:
- does the colour/breed of the dog make it any more less likely to have a name beginning with a certain letter ?
Not in this house, names have been picked because they have a family connection
- % of dogs with names similar to their owners
Nothing like - but if I had been a boy ot was meant to be my name (Roderick Angus Duncan apparently )
- Is a male more likely to own a dog or a bitch?
My sister prefers bitches, I prefer dogs (That sounds very, very, wrong
- Are some colours more popular as years go on?
I don't actually care about colour (but didn't want white incase it got confused with a Westie - and why don't the blacks get confused with Scotties )
- average posts per user based on dog type
Don't even go there, I spend far too much time on here.....

No, but my OH does - not that he had a say in what dog we were having, I have wanted a Schnauzer since I was a teenager & that was a VERY long time ago!TheDobbins wrote:Good reply... Now all we need to do is see if you appear on http://www.doyoulooklikeyourdog.com/ for the ultimate correlation!

The funny thing is, is that I made that website up, I didn't realise it was real!Maty wrote:No, but my OH does - not that he had a say in what dog we were having, I have wanted a Schnauzer since I was a teenager & that was a VERY long time ago!TheDobbins wrote:Good reply... Yes, you are getting carried away. I not paid enough to do that detailed level of data mining and Rupert would be very upset if he missed his walk because of it. ;)
There is an explanation of the white mini dog phenomena here: http://www.schnauzer-forum.co.uk/viewto ... 29#p215305" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Watson, black mini born 21/02/12
I offer my advice freely, but I am not an expert, breeder, groomer or behaviourist. It is simply my experience of raising pups in a way that seems to make sense.

Re: Schnauzer name and type Statistics
The scotties I know are a completely different build to black minis! They are much wider, with bigger heads proportionally and are much longer in the body and have shorter legs and neck than schnaus. Mind you, I know several westies and are baffled as to how they get confused with whites......

Re: Schnauzer name and type Statistics
Very interesting! I am also impressed by the speed of the data collection! In Brighton & Hove there are P&S minis everywhere! Several blacks but few B&S. Nearly all have tails which shows the explosion of numbers has happened over the last 5 years. When I got Schnapps I had only ever seen one other Schnauzer!
Schnapps , the lovely big sister to mental Darcie , the untouchable
