How to stop a dog rushing yours
Found this article that has some mainly good practical advice in it. I've done the whole no.2 thing where you body block, puff up big and brave (didn't really feel it but had to pretend) with a German Shepherd who was guarding his territory and coming out into the road we were passing along. It worked brilliantly, it's all about our mindset a lot of the time, I like where she says that if we do the right thing in terms of protecting our dogs in scenarios like this, their reactivity in future may well diminish as they stand behind us and learn we'll protect them. Good theory although hard to do 100% of the time.
I also like where she says someone painted eyes on an umbrella they carried which would open if a dog was approaching too fast, scary but effective it seemed.

Re: How to stop a dog rushing yours
very interesting.... I don't like big dogs running at me... and we had a few encounters when Barnaby was a pup and I must admit I picked him up. I would be braver now but that's nearly 3 years on .....
We met a mean looking dog a beach one day with Barnaby... no owner around and Scott bravely squared up to him and told him 'no' and 'away' as Barnaby was being a bit grumpy probably for a good reason.
Albert as you know was a staffie sandwich filler about 2 months ago and Scott had to pick Albert up and remove him from the jaws.... I do like the idea of the umbrealla with eyes.... wonder why.... (nearest thing to a monster!!!)

Oh my goodness... Brilliant idea.... They will never notice the rather large, round bright yellow monster before hand.....BeeBee wrote:Now why am I not surprised, maybe you could just lug out the monster den on walks and be done with any faffing around painting eyes on brollieslj_thorne wrote:......I do like the idea of the umbrealla with eyes.... wonder why.... Re: How to stop a dog rushing yours
Ive just read it and it has the funniest comments. I have tears running down my face. Poo eating seems to be incredibly common, very difficult to cure and the bane of many people lives!! Luckily Darcie is reasonably under control but still sneaks the odd poo treat when I'm not looking!
