Re: Black Standard female - 18mths needs forever home
Well its 8 months since Ruby joined Colin in sunny Wales. She is now well and truly settled in and her only fault is barking at strangers who come to the house or walk done the adjacent lane.
She has come to the stage of being let off the lead with our confidence that she will come back. So today after a shortish hot walk on the beach at Pembrey we headed inland towards the lake for a cooling off , so as it was so hot we let them both off the lead. In the early days this meant relearning my rugby skills to catch them both, now though, Ruby comes back and stays close at all times. With them off lead we walked to the pond in the park and they both went in up to the tummy's. My eldest through a small stick only ten feet from the bank and Ruby set off after it. I guess she didn't see where it landed because she swam out to the middle where the lily pads are and found a small log which she then brought back to us. We had never seen her swim before and I was preparing to leap in after her but it turns out she is a better swimmer than I. I seem to remember Ruby's first mum saying that that let her swim in the pond near the park where they walked her, but am not sure
It was a good excuse to bath them both when we got home and Ruby is now in her customary position on the couch guarding the bird feeders from the local Jackdaws and doves.
Ruby's relationship with Colin is one of a typical brother and sister, great most times but with the occasional spat.
Her love will be tested in July when they both go into kennels for two weeks when we go on holiday. In the past our return is greeted with great enthusiasm only to be given the cold shoulder soon after.
Will keep you up to date

Re: Black Standard female - 18mths needs forever home
What a lovely, heart warming update, so glad to hear both dogs have bonded and that Ruby has come on so well.
It sounds as if they both have a great life
PS: we also have a bird table watch dog (Alfie). He takes it personally if any bird succeeds in feeding for too long

Hi all, this is Ruby's first mum!
It's taken a while for me to be able to face coming back on the forum- I've missed Ruby terribly....however, Mark and his family have been so kind in sending me pictures and emails, that I totally know that she is definitely, 100%, with the best family!
Thank you Mark, Ruby has been so lucky in finding you all and of course her brother, Colin!

I agree It must be so difficult to hand over a much loved dog to someone you have only met a couple of times. Thank goodness Mark kept in touch so you could see how well she has settled, it must bring you some comfort at least ;)BeeBee wrote:Thats such a wonderful, brave thing for you to say....so pleased its all worked out for all involved.MichelleT wrote:Hi all, this is Ruby's first mum!
