Honey's Real Dog Food

BARF refers to Biologically Appropriate Raw food or Bones and Raw Food. It is where owners have decided to feed their Schnauzer a natural diet of raw meat, bones, and organs. If you are considering this for your Schnauzer, you will find lots of handy tips here.

Honey's Real Dog Food

Post by Eddie »

There was an extremely interesting article in the Daily Mail today about dog food. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ghurt.html I think that most of us realise that a lot of commercially produced dog food is rubbish and we steer away from the obvious culprits. We prefer to feed a quality food and currently use Lily's kitchen which is really good but we would like to get back to a BARF diet which we did when Eddie (bless him) was still with us.
Our problem is Daisy who has had bladder stones and is on a special urinary diet with low calcium and low magnesium.
Anyway, as a result of the Daily Mail article I have had a good look around the Honey's website http://honeysrealdogfood.com/index.php and have been quite impressed. We have emailed them (they have a vet.) to see how Daisy would go and if the response is positive I think we will give them a try. I don't mind blending and mixing up my own BARF (although I hate green tripe) but this seems just so convenient.
Just as an aside, they sell chicken wings for £15.50 for 5 kg. I currently pay £4.00 a kg from Tesco so I'm thinking their pricing might be OK.

My friends with 2 standards recommended Honey's to me - they do a really good book explaining it all :)

I haven't discounted BARFing in the future and Bonnie certainly enjoys some raw food (although not the raw lamb I offered yesterday, much preferred it cooked) but at the moment I don't feel ready to commit fully. I regularly give Bonnie raw chicken wings but a lack of freezer space prevents me benefiting from bulk-buying :(

I am sure some of the FB folk feed Honey's but we haven't tried it.

We have arrived at Wolftucker after trying others. The biggest problem I had with NI and Nutriment was it is too minced and mushy for Rodders, he prefers his mince to look like mince. I would be interested to hear what Honey's is like though ;)

My friend in Canada sent me a whole load of inffor on barf diets for dogs with renal issues My a'dale got renal failure when the specialist vet treating him for thyroid cancer overdosed him on vitamin d the damage can never be reversed but he is coping fine and on a barf diet. I will look up the email on my home computer and see if I can attach the links tomorrow.
