Hi everyone.
We have an eight month old mini and I'm having a problem when walking him.
Basically he pulls forward during walks and ignores his training to heel.
He's done his basic, intermediate and is on his advanced puppy training. He'll heel for treats in a controlled environment where there's no distractions.
I've tried the technique of stopping him when he pulls forward and changing direction but that has no effect.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Re: Walking issue
Are you walking on a collar and lead or a harness?
Some harnesses have an extra ring on the front so you can attach a lead to both points, if they try to pul then they just end up going around in circles.

You're giving in too easily, he's got you trained well We've nearly all been there, you start a walk they pull you change direction a few times, they still pull, you think must get on with the walk this isn't working, they pull and off you go
Barney was always frantic at the start of a walk so I started the loose lead training once he'd had a run about. The change direction does work but you have to stick at it even if it means walking backwards and forwards the same few feet for what seems like an eternity. Forget about actually walking anywhere. Give lots of praise when the lead is loose before he gets the chance to pull, be exciting to be with, or a treat if hes treat orientated (Barney isn't). If he pulls to go somewhere then he doesn't get there unless he walks with a loose lead

Re: Walking issue
Another product that can also help is a head collar. These may sound drastic but really are quite gentle but just give the dog walker greater control by having the lead attached to the head rather than on a collar round the neck (which can mean a dog chokes when pulling). There are a number of different styles but all work in more or less the same way. Initially dogs do kick up a fuss when they are tried on but we have used gentle leaders occasionally when training young dogs to walk calmly and after a day or two they seem to forget they are on. We have also found them helpful when we have four or more dogs out at busy events and need greater control than just on lead. These are some links:
