Birthday boy almost gotcha day

Post by VixB86 »

As many know on here my boy Dexter is a rescue. Image

He recently turned 7 (I've now had him about 2 years) and there is a very noticeable change in his behaviour. My family all say what a joy he is and how well I've "trained" him. Retraining a dog with habits so engrained has been a hard slog and it's difficult still in certain aspects when out. But within our home environment. He is just perfect. Talk about trained for avoidance. This has really tested him but he's just so good. https://vimeo.com/127571061

Living with a rescue isn't easy but I'd say more rewarding than having from a pup as the hurdles are much greater as are the rewards. To all those wanting to rescue... Do it!!! It's an amazing feeling of achievement when you manage those hurdles

What a lovely we boy Hamish is good with chickens as the breeder kept some but my wee welsh would have been over in a flash totally deaf to all commands.

Well done. I echo all of that. Daisy is hard work compared to Penny but the changes no matter how subtle are pleasing to see.

Gorgeous boy and well done you for working with him. I agree with wholeheartedly supporting rescue, 100%, but I'd mildly disagree in as much as not all rescues are hard work at all and certainly, plenty of dogs that people have from puppies require a lot of work - we only have to look on threads here, or facebook or anywhere to see the messes/problems/issues/challenges that people get into or talk about with puppies they bring up (or in some cases don't and mess up would be better).

I'm an advocate for changing the perception in people's minds that rescue dogs are hard work as a rule :D This puts a lot of people off considering rehoming dogs who have no other issues besides needing a good, responsible, dedicated home :)

That bit right at the end where he jumps up to you, the look on his face is pure ' that was alright, wasn't it mum?' You can just see how comfortable and happy he is with you in his new (better!) home :)

He's such a cutie bless him. Yes BeeBee I do hear what you are saying, but I suppose like a rescue all dog issues are generally (and loosely speaking) are person made.

No Dawnspell he's not met our porcupine yet. I think the ducks is challenging enough lol
